Evelyn M. Hart

Evelyn M. Hart, 94, Woodstock, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Hearthstone Manor. She was born Jan. 3, 1924, on Seneca Ridge Farm, the family farm on Perkins Road in rural Woodstock. She was the oldest of the three children born to August and Helena (Stake) Gerloff. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church and remained a member of St. John’s her entire life. She attended Pleasant Ridge School and was a 1941 graduate of Woodstock High School. At graduation, she received the American Legion Award based on courage, honor, service, leadership and scholarship. She also received a scholarship to Northern Illinois State Teachers College, DeKalb, where she received her teaching degree in Rural Education in 1943.

Karen L. Allayaud

Karen L. Allayaud, 73, New Orleans, LA, formerly of Woodstock, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, following a year-long battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 20, 1944, in Pennsylvania. She was a graduate of Woodstock High School and a piano teacher in the area. Survivors include her husband, Carl Holub, New Orleans; her mother, Beulah Allayaud, Godfrey; a sister, Jody (Chuck) Hoffmann, Grafton; two nieces, Ericka Hoffmann, Clifton, VA, and Lori Hoffmann, Grafton; two half-sisters and a half-brother, and their families; a great-uncle; two great-aunts; several cousins; and a stepsister and her family. Russell R. Schmidt

Russell R. Schmidt Sr., 62, Hebron, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, while snowmobiling in Mercer, WI. He was born in Elmhurst and raised in Addison. He married Mary Scheiblein, whom he had grown up next door to, in September 1980. He graduated from Addison Trail High School in 1974. He and his wife raised their four children in a house he built himself in Hebron.  Russ was a longtime member of the Local 150 Union of Operating Engineers and had recently retired from his work as a heavy equipment operator.  When he wasn’t out working in his barn on various projects, he loved snowmobiling, bicycling and camping.  But above all, he always put his love for his family first. Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Sullivan

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Sullivan, 88, Wonder Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock, with many of her loving family by her side. She was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Chicago to Frank and Elizabeth (Leptich) Scherer. On April 22, 1950, she married the love of her life, William J. Sullivan, in Chicago. With Betty’s unwavering support, Bill, together with  Betty’s father and brother, owned and operated Armitage Hardware Store in Chicago from 1949 to 1971.  While living in Chicago, Betty was a homemaker and busy with her growing family. In 1962, Betty and Bill and family moved from Chicago to Wonder Lake.  Bill commuted to Chicago for 10 years until the opportunity arose to purchase the

Dianna Lynn Jayne

Dianna Lynn Jayne, 54, Woodstock, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, in peace at her home. She was born Dec. 4, 1963, in Elgin. She graduated from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1982. She served for years for the Women of the Moose and was very involved in special events at the Woodstock Moose Lodge. She loved to travel to warm, exotic climates. She was known for her big heart and cheerful laugh, which left a glowing presence everywhere she went. Survivors include her husband, David Jayne; a son, Brandon (Danielle Taylor) Thompson; trusting K9 companion, Sadie Jayne; her father, Thomas (Mary) Garman, Sebring, FL; a brother, Joseph (Janice) Garman, Goodyear, AZ; her stepfather, Robert Sweeney, Woodstock; nieces and nephews,

Wayne G. Frame

Wayne G. Frame, 85, Woodstock, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Hartland. He was born June 8, 1932, in Woodstock to Charles and Ann (Larsen) Frame. He married Olive M. Slavin Nov. 19, 1955, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hartland. Wayne was a veteran, serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He served on the USS Monrovia in the communications division. He worked for Commonwealth Edison for 40 years. After retirement, he spent many winters at his home in the Rio Grande Valley area of Texas, where he volunteered at his church for Habitat for Humanity projects. Eola ‘Birdie’ Deppmeier

Eola “Birdie” Deppmeier, 85, Johnsburg, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Hearthstone Manor Nursing Home in Woodstock. She was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Chicago to John and Eola Walters. She married Henry “Jim” Deppmeier Nov. 7, 1956. She worked as a medical assistant in Dr. P. Narang’s office for many years. She also worked at the McHenry hospital and spent many hours volunteering in the emergency room. She was an active member at Chain O’ Lakes Evangelical Covenant Church in Johnsburg, now called Meadowland Church. She was loved by many and will be missed. Survivors include two sons, Brent (Suzanne) Deppmeier and Brad (Laura) Deppmeier; a granddaughter, Becky Seemann; and many friends and extended family who called her Aunt

Shelley A. Tucker

Shelley A. Tucker, 68, Woodstock, died suddenly Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Centegra Hospital-Huntley. She was born June 19, 1949, to Wallace and June (Swanson) Halvorson in Duluth, Minn. On April 22, 1972, she married Irwin P. “Terry” Tucker Jr. They made their home in Woodstock. She graduated from Freeport High School in 1967 and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., in 1971. Shelley and her family moved to Freeport in 1956. Always active, she was an accomplished synchronized swimmer, assisted with plays and was managing editor of the yearbook. She kept and nurtured a special group of high school friends for more than 60 years, the Pretzels, who became her second family. She loved the group’s yearly gatherings at Lake

Richard “Dick” Duane Schroeder

Richard “Dick” Duane Schroeder, 79, Woodstock, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Harvard to LaVerne and Marjorie (Spencer) Schroeder. He was blessed to have two wonderful women in his life. His first wife, Sandra, preceded him in death Sept. 10, 1995. He is survived by his second wife, Cathy. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He was a member of Woodstock American Legion Post 412 and served as commander and treasurer during his membership. He was a barber for 58 years, 55 of those in Woodstock. Rosemarie (Green) Sahs, 86, Woodstock, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Hearthstone Manor. She was born March 7, 1931, in Woodstock. On Sept. 30, 1950, she married Wayland Sahs in Woodstock. She was a homemaker most of her life and took pleasure in raising her four sons. She welcomed everyone in her home with a smile, never turning anyone away. She was an avid reader and loved playing cards with her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending the winter in Florida with friends and family. Survivors include three sons, Richard (Tina) Sahs, Gary (Diane) Sahs and Philip Sahs; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
