Richard “Dick” Duane Schroeder

Richard “Dick” Duane Schroeder, 79, Woodstock, died peacefully at his home Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 8, 1938, in Harvard to LaVerne and Marjorie (Spencer) Schroeder.

He was blessed to have two wonderful women in his life. His first wife, Sandra, preceded him in death Sept. 10, 1995. He is survived by his second wife, Cathy.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He was a member of Woodstock American Legion Post 412 and served as commander and treasurer during his membership.

He was a barber for 58 years, 55 of those in Woodstock. He was a staple in the community and always could be counted on for a smile and a good laugh. He had a sweet heart and was known for being loved and respected by many.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Cathy; two children, Deanna (Tim) Petersen and Tom (Michele) Schroeder; six grandchildren, Emily Petersen, Michael Petersen, Alexandra Schroeder, Chloe Schroeder, Hannah Blaksley and Cade Blaksley; a brother, Ramon Schroeder; two brothers-in-law, George “Skip” (Julee) Blaksley and DeVere “Bud” Ihrke; and nieces and nephews, Donna Schroeder, Carol O’ Dell, Paula Camann, Scott Ihrke, Greg Ihrke, Jeff (Jennifer) Blaksley, Chris Blaksley, Tausha Blaksley and Mike Blaksley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra; a niece, Vicky Schroeder; a sister-in-law, Jackie Ihrke; and a brother-in-law, Bill Blaksley.

A memorial gathering was held Jan. 5 at Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock. A private memorial service was held at the church.

Interment was in Oakland Cemetery in Woodstock.
