Sidney M. Edinger

Sidney M. Edinger, 85, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at the JourneyCare Hospice Unit, Woodstock, with his family by his side. He was born July 24, 1929, to Lester (“Doc”) and Marian Edinger, in Woodstock. He was a 1947 graduate of Woodstock Community High School. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carleton College in 1951. Upon graduation, he entered naval officer training school and subsequently served in the Navy aboard a destroyer during the Korean War. He retired from the Navy Reserves after serving for 20 years. He joined Kimberly Clark Corporation in 1953. His position was senior vice president of marketing and logistics when he retired in 1988. He married Devona Frisbie and moved to Woodstock, where they have resided since 1995. He was active in the United Methodist Church and the Rotary Club. He also volunteered at the Challenger Learning Center. He enjoyed extensive travel and an active social life including regular men’s coffee get-togethers. Survivors include his wife; two children by a previous marriage, Amy (James) Roddey, Daytona Beach, Fla., and Maer (Paul) Seibert, Missoula, Mont.; three step-children, Hugh (Marlene) Frisbie, Ellen (Luke) Lohmeyer and Kent (Diana) Frisbie, all of Woodstock; two brothers, Richard (Merlyn) Edinger, San Carlos, Calif., and Les (Liz) Edinger, Grand Marais, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; two nephews; and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary K. Wallace. A memorial gathering and service were held Sept. 20 at the First United Methodist Church, Woodstock. Interment was private. Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home.
