Darlene J. Frederick

Darlene J. Frederick, 92, died peacefully Thursday, May 31, 2018. She was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Woodstock, where she lived most of her life. She worked at Woodstock Die Casting for 32 years. She enjoyed raising her girls, gardening, vacationing in Florida, and knitting, and was an avid Cubs fan. She also loved to read and enjoyed four to five novels a week. Survivors include six daughters, Sharon Kramer, Barb (Dave) Gates, Janet Jackson, Becky (Dan) Corcoran, Patty (Scott) Summers, and Peggy (Kevin) Schmidt; a stepdaughter, Judy (Bill) Vincent; a niece, Carol (John) Perschke; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Olan and Martha Kuntz; a brother, Dale Kuntz; her husband, Robert J.

Robert Vernon Lacy Jr.

Robert Vernon Lacy Jr., 58, a former resident of Woodstock, died Jan. 10, 2016, in Safety Harbor, Florida. He was born Aug. 31, 1957, in Chicago, to Robert and Ruth (Wilkes) Lacy. Survivors included his mother, Ruth (Wilkes) Lacy; three sisters, Sharon Kennedy, Sandra Bouchard and Barbara Ezell; two brothers, Gary Bouchard and Jim Lacy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation was followed by spreading the cremains in the Gulf of Mexico.

Roger Laurin “One Putt” Stoddard

Roger Laurin “One Putt” Stoddard, 71, died May 16, 2018, a month after having a stroke. Roger was born March 15, 1947, to Laurin and Elsie Stoddard. He grew up in Woodstock, where he loved to wrestle, play basketball, and work. After graduating high school, Roger joined the Army and was stationed in Kansas and then Germany, which allowed him to travel much of Western Europe. After returning home from the service, Roger met Jenny Brodie Stoddard, his future wife and business partner of 39 years. They had three children, Emily (Kevin) Nicolin, Elizabeth (Geoff) Stocks, and Samuel (Ashlie) Stoddard; six grandchildren, and one on the way, Gaige and Genevieve Stocks, Rylan and Keegan Nicolin, Calyn and Piper Simonson, and

Alberta Elaine Whiston

Alberta Elaine Whiston, 89, of Belvidere, formerly of Woodstock, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018. She was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Woodstock, the daughter of Axel Frederick and Jessie Violet (Klossowsky) Carlson. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Belvidere. She married Jim Whiston on Nov. 6, 1974. He preceded her in death in July 1994. She had been employed at various places, including packing pickles at Claussen’s; was the bailiff for the first woman judge in McHenry County; and was an inspector of manufacturing, including Woodward and Arnold Manufacturing in Marengo. In her younger years she tamed wild mustangs in Washington state and even raced stock cars. She enjoyed sewing

Melva Joanne (McClaughry) Shephard

Melva Joanne (McClaughry) Shephard, 88, of Woodstock, died Saturday, April 28, 2018, at home  surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, to Joseph and Hettie May (Miller) McClaughry. She married Edward Eugene Shephard on June 22, 1952, in Berkeley California. Melva and her family moved when she was an infant to Lancaster, California, where she spent her childhood until she went off to college at the University of California-Berkley. She graduated with honors with a degree in microbiology. While in college, she met the love of her life, Edward Eugene Shephard (Gene). Gene and Melva were married for almost 59 years. Linda L. Coss

Linda L. Coss, 69, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, in Woodstock surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 15, 1948, in Elgin to Edward and Rose Ann (Gallagher) Broederdorf. She married the late J.C Coss on Aug. 13, 1993. Linda was a homemaker most of her life  She loved quilting, stitching, sewing, and watching “Jeopardy” with friends. She was quite the drawing artist as well. She had an ability to make everyone around her laugh with her great sense of humor. She was most proud of being a loving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren. Frank Colangelo

Frank Colangelo, 82, died Saturday, May 4, 2018. He was born May 16, 1935, in Buffalo, New York, to Rachel (Lucchino) and James Colangelo. He married Jo-Ann Nigro on Jan. 15. 1966. Shortly after high school, Frank joined the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego and traveled throughout the Pacific on submarines, working with sonar. He met his lifelong friends Howard Hildebrand and Rodney Montoya while stationed in Guam, where he spent his free time scuba diving and exploring the island. After his four-year enlistment, he worked for RCA and worked in Greenland operating computers. Lorraine M. Starzec

Lorraine M. Starzec, 93, Woodstock, died Sunday, April 29, 2018, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock surrounded by family. She married John C. Starzec March 19, 1977, in Chicago. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Mark) Haydysch, and son-in-law, Joseph Rinaldi; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Theresa Wagner; and two brothers, Peter Podgorski and Mike Podgorski. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, in 2005; a daughter, Helen Rinaldi; a brother, Edward Podgorski; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation  will be from 10 a.m. until the funeral begins at noon Thursday, May 3, at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home in Woodstock. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.

John R. Sorensen

John R. Sorensen, 70, Woodstock, died Sunday, April 22, 2018. He was born Dec. 29, 1947, in Woodstock to George and Geraldine Sorensen. John graduated from Woodstock High School in 1966 before he enlisted in the Army for three years. He was sent to Fort Belvoir, Virginia, for engineer school, and spent the next year at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  John then served our country in Vietnam for 15 months. Upon his return home, he devoted the rest of his life to helping fellow veterans.
