John William Tentler

John William Tentler, 31, formerly of Woodstock, died Aug. 19, 2012, in Chicago. He was born Feb. 14, 1981, in Euclid, Ohio, to John and Nancy (Kurzinger) Tentler.  After moving to Illinois, he attended Woodstock High School and pursued a career in radio air sales. Survivors include his daughter, Kailie Tentler; two brothers, Dewayne and Ken Tentler; and a sister, Kim (Matt) Rollins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 S. Bartlett Road, Bartlett. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodstock D.A.R.E. program, 656 Lake Ave., Woodstock.

Edward W. Adorjan

Edward W. Adorjan, 80, Wonder Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012.  He was retired from the Chicago Police Department and was a Korean War Army veteran. He was the loving husband of Rose Marie and the late Barbara (McGee). Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael and Edward J. Adorjan; three daughters, Karen (Dan) Williams, Nancy (Dennis) Sundh and Barbara (Jeff) Klauke; 10 grandchildren, David, Brian, Mike, Matthew, Ryan, Haley, Annie, Christian, Will and Juliana; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Kali; a brother,  Richard Adorjan; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was Aug. 26 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, Chicago, followed by Mass at St. Juliana Church, Chicago.  Interment was at  St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.

Margery Violet Piska

Margery Violet (Bernhardt) Piska, 99, Woodstock, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following complications from surgery. She was born May 18, 1913, in Woodstock, and was raised on her family farm. She worked at the Woodstock Sentinel newspaper for more than 30 years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woodstock, where she was very active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  She delivered meals to shut-ins well into her 90s.   She was affectionately known as “Mom,” “Grandma,” and “Aunt Marge.”  Survivors include a son, Frank Piska; three daughters, Harriet (Carl) Kuhn, Elaine Wood and Karen Mizen; four granddaughters, Michelle (Dwayne) Van Wazer, Tiffany and Jennifer Kuhn and Stephanie Ulbrecht;

Bernard S. “Dino” Gius

Bernard S. “Dino” Gius, 80, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center, Chicago. He was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Chicago, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gius. He was president and owner of Titan Steel and Tube Corporation, Woodstock. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Survivors include his partner of more than 20 years, Carol Snelson; two sons, Dr. David (Dr. Leah Harris) Gius, Chicago, and Richard (Debbie) Gius, Dallas; four grandchildren, Matthew, Nichole, Daniel and Isabelle; and a brother, Sam Gius. Visitation was Aug. 26 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Funeral and interment were held privately. Memorials can be sent to Ann & Robert Lurie Children’s

Genevieve Ann Little

Genevieve Ann Little, 79, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, surrounded by her family. She was born July 15, 1933, in McHenry to John and Agnes (Whiting) Grasser.  On Aug. 18, 1950, she married David William Little in Chicago. She worked for more than 30 years for Plaspros Inc.  She enjoyed playing bingo, putting together puzzles and playing pinochle with her siblings. She was the current holder of the traveling trophy. Survivors include two sons, Jay (Heather), Hartford, Wis., and Paul, Woodstock; five daughters,  Alice (Bill) Ellis, Kewanee, Betty Crossman, Sierra Vista, Ariz., Lucille (Ben) Rock, Harvard, Linda (Jeff) Austin, Harvard, and Sandy, Woodstock; 11 grandchildren, David Little, Jennifer (Adam) Murray, Benjamin (Bobbi) Crossman, Joshua

Catherine Anne Kolovrat

Catherine Anne Kolovrat, 95, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at her home in Lake In The Hills. She was born Aug. 14, 1917, in Yugoslavia to Peter and Katharina (Hartmann) Reibel. She loved flowers and working in the yard. She was very loving to her family and friends and enjoyed cooking for and entertaining them. Survivors include a granddaughter, Laura (Carl) Heck, Woodstock; a great-grandchild, Michael Figarelli; and a son-in-law, George Ogurek. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two daughters, Dorothy Ogurek and Henrietta Kolovrat. Visitation was Aug. 22 and 23 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.   The funeral was Aug. 23, officiated by the  Rev. Clayton Hoffman. Interment was at Mt. Auburn

Patricia M. Mayer

Patricia M. Mayer (nee Milner), 77, Richmond, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012. She was a graduate of the University of Manchester in England, where she earned a degree in languages. She met Andrew Mayer while he was stationed overseas, and they were married in 1961 in Maidstone, England. Later she became a registered nurse at Queen Anne’s Hospital in London. During her time in Richmond, she was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Women’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. She also was a familiar face at the Cubby Hole Cafe for 25 years. She was the wife of Andrew W. Charles E. Andrus

Charles E. Andrus, Huntley, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, in Door County, Wis. Survivors include a sister,  Josephine Gonzalez, and a brother, Fred Andrus. A memorial service for friends and family was held Aug. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, Woodstock. Memorials can be sent to First Presbyterian Church, 2018 N. Route 47, Woodstock, IL 60098.

Leona L. DeVogelaere

Leona L. DeVogelaere, 90, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at her home in Woodstock, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 27, 1922 in Barrington, to Frank and Emma (Gritmacker) Roth. On June 13, 1942, she  married William G. DeVogelaere in Woodstock. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock for more than 65 years. She and her husband were dairy farmers in the area for more than 30 years. She will be remembered by those who knew her for her compassion and kindness. She had an open-door policy and enjoyed baking things for people who came to visit. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors

Eleanor Maynard

Eleanor Maynard, 92, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012. She was born May 23, 1920, in Walworth, Wis., to Berger and Ella Anderson. Since 1955, she lived, worked and raised her family in Woodstock. Her favorite things included gardening, cardinals, Lake Geneva, Elvis Presley, flowers and Cubs — not necessarily in that order. Most of all, she loved her family.   Survivors include three daughters, Donna Shepard, Salem, Ore., Elaine Rounds, Brandon, Man., and Linda Poore, Zionsville, Ind.; two sons, Harry (Nancy) Maynard, Woodstock, and Ken (Joyce) Maynard, Woodstock; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Roy; and a sister, Bonnie. Her strength, spirit and love will be missed. A private family
