Leo F. Carvis, 94, Woodstock

Leo F. Carvis, 94, Woodstock, formerly of Waukegan, died Saturday, March 19, 2016, at JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock. He was born March 5, 1922, to Leo S. and Severine Carroll (Malacina) Carvis in Chicago.  On Sept. 15, 1951, he married Nancy Lorraine Vitala. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in France and England.  He worked for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for 23 years, reaching the rank of lieutenant before retiring. He had a lifelong love of music, serving as president of the American Federation of Musicians and playing the saxophone and clarinet in many bands in the area. Ed Hall, 62, Harvard

Ed Hall, 62, Harvard, died Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at JourneyCare Hospice Center, Woodstock, with his loving wife at his side. He was born Sept. 3, 1953, to Fred and Dorothy (Frizzell) Hall.   He and his wife, Debbie (Vanderstappen), were together for 19 years. He had many interests and talents.  He was very proud to be an Eagle Scout, avid canoer, marathon runner and competitive tennis player. Most importantly, he was an accomplished musician. In 1991, he won the National Fingerpicking Guitar Championship. He was a guitar teacher, a prolific performer throughout the Midwest, and producer of 206 shows at the Woodstock Opera House during the past 35 years. In addition to his solo work, he was half of

Daniel J. Gibson, 49, Lake Geneva, Wis.

Daniel J. Gibson, 49, Lake Geneva, Wis., died unexpectedly Thursday, March 10, 2016. He was born Dec. 18, 1966, to Robert and Alice (Whalen) Gibson in Beloit, Wis.  He was a 1984 graduate of Woodstock High School.  He attended  Southern Illinois University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Karrie; two sons, Evan Gibson and Nathan Gibson, both of Lake Geneva; his parents, Robert and Alice Gibson; and a brother, Dave Gibson. He was preceded in death by a sister,  Sue Gibson. A celebration of life will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 20, at Celebration on Wells Street, 422 S. Wells St., Lake Geneva. Daniel Johnson, 62, Florence, KY, formerly of Marengo

Daniel Johnson, 62, Florence, Ky., formerly of Marengo, died Tuesday, March 8, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 24, 1953, to Myron and Elizabeth Johnson in Rolla, Mo.  On Aug. 24, 2013, he married Cheryl Wilson. He worked as a capacity planner for Vantiv. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Harley rider.  He always had a way to make people smile, and he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife; five children, Carissa (Brynn) Johnson, Cianna (Max) Richardson, Celicia (Adam) Johnson Cassel, Joseph (Kim) Johnson and Charlyna (Dylan) Johnson-Stark; his children’s mother, Jan Johnson; two grandchildren, Kiersea Cassel and Kaleigha Cassel; two brothers, Mike Johnson and Randy Johnson; three sisters, Thersea

Elgin O. Zuhlke, 90, Delavan, Wis., formerly of Harvard

Elgin O. Zuhlke, 90, Delavan, Wis., formerly of Harvard, died suddenly Thursday, March 3, 2016, in Delavan. He was born May 3, 1925, to Otto and Anna L. (Ames) Zuhlke in Coloma, Wis. On June 1, 1946, he married Irenee Fritsch in Harvard. She died March 4, 2011. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He worked in the dairy business at Dean Foods for many years, later working at Bowman’s, Harvard, and Borden’s in Woodstock. He could fix anything. He was very talented in small engine repair, carpentry, welding and anything else he decided to put his mind to. He was a member of the Harvard Moose Lodge and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mark James Dice, 56, Woodstock

Mark James Dice, 56, Woodstock, died March 5, 2016, from a sudden cardiac arrest in Woodstock. He was born on July 3, 1959, to Bernice and Fleming Dice in Waukegan. He was a 1977 graduate of St. Charles High school. He graduated from Elgin Community College with an associate’s degree, and he attended Northern Illinois University.  He loved his work as a graphic artist. He will be fondly remembered for his huge laughter, large heart and sweet kindness. He enjoyed his music, his dogs and cars and motorcycles. Joanne Grace Hill Tarbox Styles, 98, Mount Morris

Joanne Grace Hill Tarbox Styles, 98, Mount Morris, died Saturday, March 5.   She was born Jan. 3, 1918, to Roger and Hortense Hill in Chicago.   In 1939, she married Hascy Tarbox. They were married for 52 years until his death in 1991.   The couple had two children, Melinda (Alfred) Reitman and Todd (Shirley) Tarbox, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.   In 1994, she married Lee Styles. They were married for 10 years until his death in 2004.   For more than 30 years, the Hills owned and operated the Todd School for Boys in Woodstock until it closed in 1954. Carole A. Foreman, 75, Woodstock, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, peacefully in the comfort of her own home.  She was born Dec. 10, 1940, to Fred and Velma (Bird) Pope in Woodstock.   On Dec. 2, 1985, she married James Foreman in Las Vegas.  She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock, and Women of the Moose Lodge No 1329. She was a homemaker most of her life and recently retired as a bus aide for Woodstock School District 200. While working as a bus aide, she looked forward to helping special-needs children.  She was a woman full of life and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her beloved children and granddaughters. Linda Sue Natschke, 58, Wonder Lake

Linda Sue Natschke, 58, Wonder Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 28, 2016, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry.  She was born May 26, 1957, in Chicago.  A longtime resident of Woodstock and Wonder Lake, she grew up in the city, where she forged a lifelong commitment to nurturing others. She was a homemaker who grew to be a mother to far more than her own four children. Her zest for living life to its fullest regardless of challenges was reaffirming to all who knew her. She possessed an innate sense of others’ struggles and an uncanny ability to soothe them.  She adored being a grandmother and celebrated the triumphs of members of her biological and adopted families. Her cherished presence will be sorely missed.

Robert R. Basile, 87, Crystal Lake, formerly of Wonder Lake

Robert R. Basile, 87, Crystal Lake, formerly of Wonder Lake, died Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at the Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle.  He was married to his first wife, Madeline, for 45 years. Eighteen years ago, he married Trudy Norman. He was a retired lithographer. He served in the U.S. Army for six years during the Korean War.  Survivors include his wife Trudy; a son, David Scott Basile Sr., Haines Falls, N.Y.; a step-daughter, Carol (Donald) Lischalk, Palatine; a grandson, David Scott Basile Jr., Joliet; two step-grandchildren,  Carol Dian Ladd, Cary, and Brett (Tiffany) Lischalk, Lake Zurich; three great-grandchildren, Taryn, Raney and Noah; a sister, Harriet (Gerald) Dupree, North Carolina; a nephew, Dennis A. Basile; and a niece, Sandra N. Basile.
