Dr. David A. Frey, 80, Woodstock, died at his home Sunday, April 3, 2016.
He was born Nov. 26, 1935, to Allen Louis and Mary Elizabeth (Larabee) Frey in Mendota.
In 1957, he married Carol Boozel. They were married for 58 wonderful years.
He grew up in Earlville, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Monmouth College in 1957, a Master of Science in Chemistry and a Doctorate from the University of Iowa in 1959 and 1961, respectively. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Okla., and Morton International in Woodstock and in Chicago until he retired in 1997. He then taught chemistry at McHenry County College for one year. He was a member of the McHenry County Audubon Society for 32 years, American Chemical Society, McHenry County Computer Club and a Boy Scout leader of Troop 359. He enjoyed camping, birding, gardening and mechanical jobs.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Donald (Patti) Frey, Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Sandra (Bob) Landrey, Wonder Lake; seven grandchildren, Neil, Shaine, Jerrid and Drew Frey and Jessica, Rachel and Amanda Landrey; a sister, Marilyn Michelini; a sister-in-law, Doris Inness; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Richard Michelini and Bob Inness.
The visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the 6 p.m. funeral Thursday, April 7, at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Precinct Cemetery in Earlville. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
