Marjorie K. Lutes

Marjorie K. Lutes, 94, died June 5, 2015, at Valley Hi Nursing Home surrounded by family.

She was born Sept. 21, 1921, to Norman and Mary (Thomson) Karns in Huntington, Ind.

On May 12, 1943, she married Clifford M. Lutes, Jr., in Fort Wayne, Ind.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock for 65 years. She was involved with the United Methodist Women and many other church activities. She was instrumental in establishing Caring Callers.

She graduated from South Whitley High School, South Whitley, Ind. She completed several college courses and completed many Elder Hostel courses. A proponent of education, she served on the Board of Education of Woodstock Elementary School District 72 for many years. She was president of the District 72 board when it was consolidated into Woodstock School District 200.

Her hobbies included sewing, playing the organ and spending time with family.

Survivors include four sons, David (Linda) Lutes, Gary (Cindi) Lutes, Gregory (Cheryl) Lutes and Kent Lutes; a daughter, Gina (Thomas) Halvorsen; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carolyn French and her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother-in-law, Robert French.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at First United Methodist Church, 201 W. South St. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kurt Gamlin will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock.
