Roger R. Smessaert

Roger R. Smessaert, 73, McHenry, died March 6, 2017.

He was born July 18, 1943, to Raymond and Betty Smessaert, in Chicago.

Roger worked as an engineer for ComEd for many years. He had a passion for trains and enjoyed the Illinois Railroad Museum, Union. He was the type of person who would do anything for anyone, exhibiting kindness and generosity. He loved walking his dog, Toby, but most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Scott (Tiffany) Smessaert; four grandchildren, Austin, Alex, Alyssa and Ayden; six siblings, Jerry Smessaert, Jane Murrell, Jackie Smessaert, Ann Daghestani, Mary Smessaert and Kathy Liljeberg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna S. Smessaert.

A memorial gathering and celebration of life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.

Memorials can be made to Roger’s family for designation at a later date.
