IDOT says Route 47 Project is Moving Forward

Phase 2 has been funded by state

The reconstruction of Route 47 through Woodstock is moving forward, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The second part of the three-phase project to widen the highway has been funded by the state, according to Woodstock Mayor Brian Sager.

“We heard two key points of good news from Secretary [of Transportation] Randy Blankenhorn,” Sager said in a press release. “First, IDOT informed us Woodstock Route 47 Phase 2 is funded and will move forward, even in a time when other IDOT projects are being halted. Secondly, Secretary Blankenhorn informed us it is his expectation that actual construction of Route 47 will move forward with the completion of a federal or state capital bill.”

Sager and other Woodstock officials met with Blankenhorn and IDOT representatives March 29 at an event hosted by State Sen. Pamela Althoff (R-McHenry) and State Rep. Steve Reick (R-Woodstock).

The project, which includes plans for more traffic lanes, five roundabout intersections, a bicycle lane and a hard median, currently is in its first phase.

The second phase includes contract plan preparation and land acquisition. Construction crews begin working in the third phase.

The project will stretch about five miles, from Charles Road to Highway 14. IDOT estimates the cost of construction at about $76 million.

At a Feb. 21 City Council meeting, an IDOT representative told the council it could take eight to 12 years before the project is fully funded and ready for construction.
