George Orlo Meyers, 65, Johnsburg, died suddenly Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at his home. He was born March 31, 1952, to George Carl and Mary Ann (Brown) Meyers in Woodstock, and was the youngest of two children. Also known by “Roscoe” and “Bubba,” he was remarkably charismatic, deeply caring, had a magnetic personality and an extraordinarily generous heart. He graduated from Marian High School and  attended Robert Morris College and Rock Valley College, preparing for his career as a federal firefighter, from which he retired as a captain, an EMT and a paramedic. Salvador Arias, 77, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at Centegra Hospital. McHenry. He was born Oct. 9, 1940, to Salvador and Juliana (Aguirre) Arias in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. On June 3, 1967, he married Ana M. Laguna. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. He was the oldest of 17 family members. He was a great role model, a man of his word, living his faith by example and always lending a hand to anybody who needed it. He enjoyed gardening and being with his dogs. Lawrence “Larry” T. Schnulle, 77, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, in Harlingen, Texas. He was born Oct. 22, 1940, to Lester and Vera Schnulle in Hartland. He worked as a highway maintenance worker with the McHenry County Division of Transportation for 35 years. He lived in Illinois for many years and Missouri as well. Upon retirement, he and his wife became winter visitors to the Harlingen area and made Harlingen their home five years ago. He was a member of Moose Lodge #1329 for more than 50 years and Elks Lodge #1043 for 35 years. He loved hunting, fishing and John Wayne movies. Edwin Harold Thurow, 70, Woodstock, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, after a valiant battle with a debilitating illness. He was born Aug. 29, 1947, to Harold and Marian (Engebretson) Thurow. He loved the outdoors and was a skilled hunter, avid fisherman, master tradesman and gifted musician. His zest for life, compassion, humor and talents will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Thomas F. Vetor, 58, Woodstock, died Monday, Oct. 23, 2017, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry. He was born Feb. 25, 1959, to Thomas Sr. and Bonnie (Holmes) Vetor in Woodstock. He grew up in McCullom Lake and attended McHenry schools. He was a proud past member of the Viscounts Drum & Bugle Corps in the early ‘70s. He enjoyed sports, particularly the Green Bay Packers. Mary Ann Mass, 89, Woodstock, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 29, 1928, to Leo and Clara (Diedrich) Regner in Volo. On Nov. 6, 1948, she married Frank J. Mass in Volo. She and her husband had numerous business enterprises. They operated the Lamplighter Motel in Woodstock for 20 years; they built and operated the Timbers Restaurant for many years; the Colonial Motel and Restaurant, and the Rose Ann apartment complex in Elgin; and many other rental properties in and around Woodstock. Cynthia L. Ray, 49, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017, at JourneyCare Hospice-Woodstock, surrounded by her loving family. She was born Jan. 22, 1968, in Oak Park, to Jerry and Nina Ray. She worked at Catalent Pharma Solutions, Woodstock, and was a member of the Woodstock Moose. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed the times she spent with her two nephews and niece. Roberta Stenhoff, born March 22, 1937, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017. She is survived by her husband, Mike; three children, Mike, Lacey and Meredith; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. I could list her accomplishments, and there were many in our 60 years of marriage, but that’s not what Bert was about. Charles J. ‘Chuck’ Zimmermann, 92, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, in JourneyCare Hospice, Woodstock. He was born Oct. 19, 1924, to Fred and Theresa (Gart) Zimmermann in Chicago. He married Marian Mundt Fillion in Woodstock. He began farming at an early age. His joy of farming soon fired his love for tractors, plants, animals and a knack for growing beautiful roses. After he left the farm, he worked for a number of different companies including Brown Camera, Kishwaukee Valley Medical and Amcore Bank, to name a few.
