Charles J. ‘Chuck’ Zimmermann

Charles J. ‘Chuck’ Zimmermann, 92, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, in JourneyCare Hospice, Woodstock. He was born Oct. 19, 1924, to Fred and Theresa (Gart) Zimmermann in Chicago. He married Marian Mundt Fillion in Woodstock. He began farming at an early age. His joy of farming soon fired his love for tractors, plants, animals and a knack for growing beautiful roses. After he left the farm, he worked for a number of different companies including Brown Camera, Kishwaukee Valley Medical and Amcore Bank, to name a few. His last career was working the car wash with his brother. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, a proud member of the “Liars Club” and a longtime member

Glenn F. Ober

Glenn F. Ober, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Northwestern Hospital, Chicago. He was born March 3, 1942, to Glenn H. and Bessie (Freeman) Ober in Woodstock. On July 4, 1973, he married Barbara J. Radcliffe in Elgin. A graduate of Woodstock schools, Glenn went on to receive a degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida. In 1963, he was drafted into service by the U.S. Army during the conflict in Vietnam, where he served one tour as crew chief of a CH47 Chinook helicopter. He worked as a corporate pilot for three major Chicago-based corporations for 38 years. He enjoyed tree farming, beekeeping and woodworking. Survivors include his wife; two children, Linda C. (Scott) Schweiger, Newark, Ohio, and Paul

Roberta Stenhoff

Roberta Stenhoff, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017. She was born March 22, 1937. She and her husband, Mike, were married for 60 years. She had a lifetime of accomplishments, but always said her children and grandchildren were her most important accomplishments in life. She loved all of them unconditionally and as her health was failing at the end, just a picture or the mention of their names brought a smile to her face. She was Mike’s high school sweetheart and best friend, a wonderful wife, a golfing buddy, tennis partner and a great traveling companion as the couple toured the country in an RV for 14 years. Susan Louise Metivier

Susan Louise Metivier, 70, Bull Valley, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, in Crystal Lake. She was born May 3, 1947, to Robert Hall and Virginia Warner Hall in Indianapolis, Ind. On June 28, 1969, she married Donald Metivier in indianapolis, Ind. From the time she was a high school exchange student in France, she was a Francophile. She and Don took many trips to Western Europe visiting the great cities, museums and cathedrals and immersing themselves in the everyday life of provincial France. Sue introduced Don and many friends to the joys of French cuisine. Sue received her Bachelor of Arts in French from Indiana University. She taught French at Palatine High School for five years. Marlene Ann Lantz

Marlene Ann Lantz, 70, Rensselaer, Ind., formerly of McHenry, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at IU Health Arnett Hospital, La Fayette, Ind. She was born Jan. 5, 1947, to Edward Kettmann and Mariette Griesmar in Streator. She attended St. Mary Catholic School, Woodstock, and graduated from Marian Central Catholic High School in 1965. She studied at Elgin Community College and the Milwaukee School of Mortuary Science. She received her professional license in 1970 and worked at hospitals and Wait-Ross-Allanson Funeral Home, Algonquin, until she became chief deputy coroner for McHenry County in 1980. She was elected McHenry County corner in 1988 and retired in 2012. She served a two-week stint as McHenry County Sheriff in 1993. She completed courses in

Sally Jane Gavers

Sally Jane Gavers, 79, Woodstock, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at home with her sons and her best friend, Sheryl Senft, by her side. She was a cancer warrior, surviving nine years after her diagnosis. She was born Oct. 2, 1938, the daughter of Christopher and Whilamena Schumacher in Crystal Lake. On October 21, 1961, she married Donald R. Gavers, and they settled in Woodstock and raised their sons. She was a Tiger — a graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School. Her love of animals was ignited when she worked for a veterinarian shorty after her graduation. Her career as a beautician lasted 50-plus years. Quentin Beach

Quentin Beach, 34, died unexpectedly at his home Monday, Sept. 25, 2017. He was born Jan. 10, 1983, in Woodstock. He graduated from Hebron High School. He worked at Plaspros in McHenry and later at Allied Barton Security. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend, and he will be sorely missed. Survivors include his parents, Wendy Schumacher, Woodstock, and Rick Beach, Janesville, Wis.; his  paternal grandmother, Irene Cassels, Janesville;  a brother, Shawn Wells, Woodstock, and three sisters, Hope Findley, Janesville, Erica Schumacher, Woodstock, and Tabitha Beach, Janesville; nieces, Aaliyah Kallenbach and Brianna Findlay; a nephew, Landon Czarnecki; uncles, Mike (Renee) Schumacher, Thom Schumacher, Timothy (Kelly) Schumacher, Terry Schumacher, Charlie Beach, Gerry Beach, Bill Smelcher and Jessie Wargowsky; an

Charles ‘Mike’ Meikel

Charles “Mike” Meikel, 94, died peacefully in Crystal Lake. He lived in McHenry County most of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Asiatic/Pacific theater as a gunner’s mate on the U.S.S. Gwin. He was awarded the Silver Star medal. He took great pride in his work as a carpenter and maintaining the farm and orchard. Later in life, he embraced the hobby of wood turning, creating many beautiful and intricately patterned bowls. Survivors include his wife, Bev; a daughter, Kathy (Doug) Mather; and a granddaughter, Kailyn. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters. Anna V. Stahlecker

Anna V. Stahlecker, 87, Woodstock, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Crossroads Care Center, Woodstock. She was born July 30, 1930, to Fred and Elizabeth (Soenksen) Jansen in Elwood, Iowa. On March 12, 1955, she married Richard Stahlecker. She enjoyed sewing, working as a seamstress for many years. She also worked in factories including Plaspros. She loved her times with her friends, playing cards and being the chauffeur for anyone who needed a ride. Mostly she enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was loved and will be missed. Robert Louis Klein

Robert Louis Klein died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born June 30, 1931, to Leo and Catherine Klein in Friendship, Wis. He graduated from Adams/Friendship High School in 1949 and served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 in Europe on the U.S.S. Lloyd Thomas. After service to his country, he attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and -Platteville to study civil engineering. While in Stevens Point, he met his future wife, (Anita) Joann Burmeister. They married in March of 1959. As a student, he worked on the construction of Wisconsin Highway I-90. After graduation from Platteville in 1961, he worked for the city of Madison, Wis., as a land surveyor.  He loved being outside
