Marguerite Sara Kaufman

Marguerite Sara Kaufman, 101, Woodstock, died Saturday, Aug. 16. She was born Aug. 14, 1913, to the Rev. Dr. Roger Kaufman and Blanche (Hostetter) Kaufman in Woodstock. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, where her father served as pastor. She attended Woodstock public schools, graduating from high school in  1931. Although higher education for women was rare at the time, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Carthage College in 1935 and later earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in library science from the University of Illinois. She also took doctoral-level courses. Because work was scarce during the Depression, her professional career began with two years of intermittent teaching assignments. As economic

Harvey M. Schneider

Harvey M. Schneider, 70, Clemmons, N.C., formerly of Woodstock, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Wake Forest Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C. He owned Glory Home Builders, and co-owned Country Club Stable, Woodstock. He was the first president of the McHenry County Jewish Congregation in Crystal Lake.¬ Survivors include his wife and best friend of 30 years, Kay, (Chalman); a daughter, Deborah (David) Minori; a son, Michael (Suzette) Schneider; two grandchildren, Ben and Anna Schneider; three sisters, Ellen (the late Nathan) Finn, Dorothy (Leonard) Finn and Sheila (Marshall) Ander; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents. Christopher R. Schauer

Christopher R. Schauer, 38, Woodstock, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. He was born April 27, 1976, to Gary R. and Sharon E. (Madura) Schauer in Woodstock. In his youth, he was the Easter Seal Poster Child. He loved sports, especially basketball and baseball. In high school, he served as the manager for the Woodstock High School state finals baseball team as well as the WHS basketball team. He went on to manage the men’s and women’s basketball teams at McHenry County College where he recently was recognized for his 20 years of service. He was the founder of Basketball in the Park, a fundraiser for Give Kids the World Village, for which he raised more than $36,000. He loved interacting

Lester E. Key

Lester E. Key, 87, Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Kindred Hospital, Sycamore. He was born May 30, 1927, in Norman, Okla.   On Dec. 4, 1972, he married Nancy Fischer in Chicago.   A U.S. Army veteran, he served during the Korean War.  After discharge, he lived for a time in California before becoming a resident of Chicago where he met his wife.  For the past 37 years, he resided in Wonder Lake. Prior to retirement, he was an electrician at the Palmer House in Chicago for more than 30 years, retiring at age 65. He was a 55-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. James H. Bangiorno Sr.

James H. Bangiorno Sr., 71, Woodstock, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at his home surrounded by his wife and loving family. He was born Oct. 20, 1942, to James George and Anne (Held) Bangiorno in Chicago.   On Oct. 8, 1994, he married Donna L. Hitchcock in Huntley.   He worked for Precision Twist Drill Company in Crystal Lake for 20 years. Survivors include his wife; seven children, Lisa Marie (Roger) Ketchum, Charlie (Diane Susong) Hitchcock, Cari Ann Bangiorno, Scott (Jenny) Hitchcock, Jim H. Jessie E. Kaun

Jessie E. Kaun, 94, Ashland, Wis. , formerly of Woodstock, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 4, 1920, to George and Ethel (Fawn) Vanlue, in McHenry County, N.D.  On Feb. 19, 1966, she married Paul Kaun in Beloit, Wis. One of 13 children, she lived in various areas throughout her childhood. She was a hard worker during the day and loved to go dancing in the evenings.  Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Diane Malmstrom; seven grandchildren, Allen Cowan, John Cowan, Dawn Malmstrom, Michelle Ponkauskas, Tonja Woerth, Eddie Malmstrom and Steve Malmstrom; a sister; two brothers; a special sister-in-law, Amy Vanlue; and many nieces and nephews. Sandra K. Terlikowski

Sandra K. Terlikowski, 61, Woodstock, died Sunday, July 10, 2014, at JourneyCare Hospice Inpatient Unit, Woodstock, with her loving sister, Cindy, and her brother-in-law, Chris Burns, at her side. She was born Feb. 2, 1953, to Joyce and Glen Fringer in Woodstock She met and married Norbert Daniel Terlikowski — a.k.a. Uncle Dan — and together, with no previous restaurant experience, they opened Uncle Dan’s Restaurant on the Woodstock Square. Uncle Dan’s was a popular mainstay of the Woodstock Square from 1977 to 1994. It became a meeting place for friends to experience “fine spirits and edibles” and where the motto was N.H.A.B.D. — Never Had a Bad Day. Hildegard B. Munguia Ortmann

Hildegard B. Munguia Ortmann, 82, Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at JourneyCare Hospice Inpatient Unit, Woodstock. She was born  Jan. 24, 1932, to Walter and Anna (Lazinski) Binder in Brazil.  She came to America in 1960 and worked as a nanny and with maintenance at IMC.  She loved caring for children, especially her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was born and raised on a farm and had lived on several farms throughout her lifetime which sparked her passion for gardening, raising animals and cooking.  She was a marvelous cook, perfecting many old family recipes and serving them to her loved ones. Marjorie Jean Barrett

Marjorie Jean Barrett, 84, formerly of Woodstock, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at LeRoy Manor, LeRoy. She was born Nov. 16, 1929, to Basil Periman and Fay (Borland) Periman, in Elkhorn, Wis . She spent her childhood in Peoria, Arizona and Woodstock, and graduated from Woodstock Community High School.  On April 6, 1950, she married Donald Eugene Barrett of Woodstock. The couple moved to Baltimore while Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After briefly living in Elgin, they eventually settled in Woodstock. She was a loving wife and mother and worked predominantly as an institutional cook.  After retirement, the couple lived in Hayward and Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; Prim and Mountain Home, Ark.; and East Tawakoni and
