Martin Korving

Martin Korving, 88, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 8, 1925, to Kryn and Lena (Tapteski) Korving in Chicago.

On Sept. 24, 1955, he married Magdalena Reif.

He loved reading, especially anything that had to do with history. He also enjoyed gardening. He was always meticulous when it came to taking care of his tools and other possessions. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Korving and Martin Albert (Jenni) Korving; a daughter, Diana (Robert) Smithana; six grandchildren, Theodore R. Kopis, Tennessa Kopis, Matthew Kopis, Jazlyn Korving, Kristina Smithana and Ryan Smithana; one grandchild and one great-grandchild on the way; and a sister, Cecilia (Marge) Cortese.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Ingrid Korving.

The visitation was Aug. 28 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock, and the funeral was Aug. 29 at St. Mary Catholic Church.  Burial was at St. Adalbert Catholic Cemetery, Niles.

Memorials can be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
