Sandra K. Terlikowski

Sandra K. Terlikowski, 61, Woodstock, died Sunday, July 10, 2014, at JourneyCare Hospice Inpatient Unit, Woodstock, with her loving sister, Cindy, and her brother-in-law, Chris Burns, at her side. She was born Feb. 2, 1953, to Joyce and Glen Fringer in Woodstock She met and married Norbert Daniel Terlikowski — a.k.a. Uncle Dan — and together, with no previous restaurant experience, they opened Uncle Dan’s Restaurant on the Woodstock Square. Uncle Dan’s was a popular mainstay of the Woodstock Square from 1977 to 1994. It became a meeting place for friends to experience “fine spirits and edibles” and where the motto was N.H.A.B.D. — Never Had a Bad Day. She formed friendships and shared love with her employees and customers

Hildegard B. Munguia Ortmann

Hildegard B. Munguia Ortmann, 82, Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at JourneyCare Hospice Inpatient Unit, Woodstock. She was born  Jan. 24, 1932, to Walter and Anna (Lazinski) Binder in Brazil.  She came to America in 1960 and worked as a nanny and with maintenance at IMC.  She loved caring for children, especially her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was born and raised on a farm and had lived on several farms throughout her lifetime which sparked her passion for gardening, raising animals and cooking.  She was a marvelous cook, perfecting many old family recipes and serving them to her loved ones. Marjorie Jean Barrett

Marjorie Jean Barrett, 84, formerly of Woodstock, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at LeRoy Manor, LeRoy. She was born Nov. 16, 1929, to Basil Periman and Fay (Borland) Periman, in Elkhorn, Wis . She spent her childhood in Peoria, Arizona and Woodstock, and graduated from Woodstock Community High School.  On April 6, 1950, she married Donald Eugene Barrett of Woodstock. The couple moved to Baltimore while Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After briefly living in Elgin, they eventually settled in Woodstock. She was a loving wife and mother and worked predominantly as an institutional cook.  After retirement, the couple lived in Hayward and Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; Prim and Mountain Home, Ark.; and East Tawakoni and

George Erber

George Erber, 95, died Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Hearthstone Communities, Woodstock. He was born September 8, 1919, to George and Minnie (Seegers) Erber in Arlington Heights. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, earning three bronze battle stars, serving both in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and the Philippine Liberation. Following his military career, he was the co-owner of Carey Appliances, McHenry, and also sole owner of A-1 Appliances, Woodstock. Survivors include: his wife, Alice (nee Bentsen); a son, Bruce A. (Pat) Erber; a step-son, Steve (Pat) Wood; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Erber; six grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Dana, Brad, Mike and Jennifer; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Erber; and many nieces and nephews. Elmer T. Harmon

Elmer T. Harmon, 91, Elgin, died Saturday, July 19, 2014, at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, Wis. He was born Dec. 27, 1922, to Elmer D. and Constence (Sausser) Harmon in Havensville, Kan.  On July 16, 1944, he married Elaine Swanson in Woodstock. He worked as a carpenter and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 363. He was a member of the Elgin Moose Lodge for 65 years. He enjoyed working with wood, boating and motorcycling. He loved his fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed sports, especially cheering for the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Leo L. Tibbitts

Leo L. Tibbitts, Sr., 95, Woodstock, formerly of Hebron, died Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Hearthstone Communities in Woodstock. He was born Dec. 8, 1918, to Henry and Maude (Crandall) Tibbitts in Hebron. On Jan. 1, 1940, he married Minnie K. Hortin in Valpariso, Ind.  He served in the US Navy as an aviation machinist’s mate in WW II, from Sept. 1943 to Jan. 1946. He was a member of Eugene Drill Post #606 in Hebron. He worked as a tool and die maker at Woodstock Die Casting (Auto-Lite) for 33 years, retiring in 1976. He attended Hebron United Methodist Church in Hebron, and was a member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge. He served as a village trustee for Hebron

Charles E. O’Leary

Charles E. O’Leary, 91, Woodstock, died Friday, July 25, 2014, at his home. He was born Jan. 24, 1923, to John and Margaret (Normand) O’Leary in Rockford. On Nov. 13, 1948, he married Helen Garrelts in McHenry. He was a veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He served from 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant assigned to the 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Division, stationed in France. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock, and he had been employed with Brown Camera. He loved golfing, fishing, hunting and building things. Florence LaVonne Hoyt

Florence LaVonne Hoyt, 96, died in her home in rural Woodstock Thursday, July 10​, 2014, three days short of her 97th birthday.  She was born July 13, 1917, to Ralph and Ada Robinett, on a newly homesteaded farm near Millarton, N. D.  She graduated from Lyons Township High School before marrying Wilson Hoyt in 1937 and settling near LaGrange.   The family moved to Woodstock in 1950. She has been a member of First Congregational Church of Huntley ever since. She was committed to the loving care of her husband, four sons and their families. Her determination to live out her life in her own home was legendary within the family.  To the end she maintained a clear faith in

Alice Mae Wilcox

Alice Mae Wilcox, 94, Woodstock, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at JourneyCare Hospice, Woodstock. She was born June 30, 1920, to Robert James Elder Low and Viola Mae (Beatty) Low in Ringwood.  On Oct. 9, 1946, she married Walter E. Wilcox in Greenwood. She was a longtime member of the McHenry County Historical Society.  She worked as a seamstress for many years, tailoring the uniforms for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office among countless other articles of clothing and sewing projects.   She loved sewing for her many nieces; this included several wedding dresses as well as several apricot bridesmaid dresses.  She also enjoyed baking. Donald James Koehler

Donald James Koehler, 84, formerly of Woodstock, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, in Pekin.   He was born Oct. 21, 1929, to Orlo O. and Berniece (Sweet) Koehler in Akron, Ohio.   He was a United States Army veteran, stationed in Germany during the Korean War.   He attended school in Woodstock and was a graduate of Woodstock High School.   A graduate of the University of Illinois, he was a professional land surveyor and was a member of the Professional  Land Surveyors Organization.   Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; a daughter, Delight Bernath; and two grandchildren, Stuart and April Bernath; two brothers, Robert (Jane) Koehler, Woodstock, and Judge Ward Koehler, El Paso, Texas.   He was preceded in death
