Anita M. Fraase

Anita M. Fraase, 92, formerly of Harvard, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Woodstock. She was born March 30, 1922, to Emil and Edna (Plisch) Krohn, near Wausau, Wis.  On June 4, 1946, she married Cassius “Bud” Fraase in Wausau.  Survivors include three children, Jane (Whitey) Ratzlaff, Wonder Lake, Dale Fraase, Stillman Valley, and John (Jean) Fraase, Malta; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Ratzlaff) Johnson, Elizabeth (Matt) Johnson, Dylan Fraase, Christopher Fraase, Kelly (Scott) Gollan, Matthew (Jenn) Peterson, Mark (Stephanie) Peterson; three great-grandchildren, Brayden, Dayne and Gavin; two sisters, Alice Christian and Marie (Earl) Krohn, Wausau; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Sept. 4, 2003, and her parents.  Visitation and funeral

John L. Eppley

John L. Eppley, 64, Woodstock, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at JourneyCare Inpatient Care Unit, Woodstock.   He was born June 9, 1950, in Milwaukee. He graduated from Lombard High School in 1968 and earned a degree in criminal justice at McHenry County College. He began his career in law enforcement in 1974 with the Harvard Police Department. He joined the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department in 1978 where he served for 28 years.  As a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, his favorite assignment with the department was the motorcycle unit and participating in all of the parades throughout McHenry County. He was a member of the Tabala Shrine, Rockford, and past president of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 118. He had

Esther Chloe Sturm

Esther Chloe Sturm, 85, Wonder Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, in her home with her family at her side. She was born Feb. 13, 1929, to Clarence and Ocie Vogler in Macomb. On Feb. 11, 1949, she married Donald C. Sturm. As a young child, she attended a one-room school house and was able to graduate from high school in three years. While attending school, she met her future husband. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy near the end of World War II. Since he had no middle initial in his name, he took the letter C from Esther’s middle name as his official initial. They were married after he came home and celebrated 65 years together. The

Marie L. Iversen

Marie L. Iversen, 83, Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Woodstock, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Community Hospital South, Indianapolis. She was born April 28, 1931, to Fred and Catherine (Krapf) Lammelin in Oak Park .  On June 28, 1952, she married Robert R. Iversen in Chicago. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock, and St. Jude Catholic Church, Indianapolis.  She volunteered at the Clothing Closet in Woodstock for 20 years.  Her interests included opera, paper dolls, reading, classical music, traveling, genealogy and cooking.  Her passion was her family, and her vocation was a wife and mother. Ruth O. “Ricky” Sprouse

Ruth O. “Ricky” Sprouse, 86, Crystal Lake, formerly of Woodstock, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at the Fountains at Crystal Lake, surrounded by her family. She was born Nov. 22, 1928, to Stanley and Vera (Matteson) Owen. In 1953 she married Claude Willard “Bud” Sprouse Jr. in Lake Forest. She was a legal secretary for Katten, Muchin & Zavis Law Firm, commuting every day to and from Chicago.  She was a devout Episcopalian. She was an avid bridge player, and she also enjoyed playing golf.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Ruth V. Haning

Ruth V. Haning, 95, Woodstock, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at her home in Woodstock. She was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Salisbury, Pa. to Samuel and Mary H. (Baum) Horchler.  On Nov. 28, 1942, she married Samuel I. Haning in Fredericksburg, Va. She was a resident of Woodstock for more than 60 years and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church.  She was an avid flower gardener, and she also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards.  She was a league bowler and horseback rider well into her 80s. Survivors include her four sons, Jerry (Shirl) Haning, Meyersdale, Pa., Robert Haning, New Washington, Ind., Sam (Sue) Haning, Huntley and Freeman (Brenda) Haning, Salisbury, Pa.; three daughters, Susan (John)

Margaret May Langhoff Reed

Margaret May Langhoff Reed, 92, Woodstock, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at Hearthstone Manor, Woodstock. She was born May 22, 1922, to Herman and Wilhelminia (Schmidt) Langhoff in Woodstock. On Aug. 30, 1941, she married Walter Merle Reed in Woodstock. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Woodstock, since 1999. She worked for many years at the Woodstock Typewriter factory. She also worked in the offices of the Chicago Medical Supply and McHenry County Soil and Water Conservation District. She was involved in Girl Scouts, loved crafts and sewing and appreciated the arts. Survivors include two sons, Paul (Susan) Reed and Steven (Angie) Reed; two daughters, Cynthia Roth and Patricia Menzimer; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Jodi Elizabeth (Martin) Farris

Jodi Elizabeth (Martin) Farris, 54, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at her home in Woodstock, surrounded by her mother, husband, sisters, children and friends, peacefully escaping the disease that ravaged her body for so long. She was a beautiful woman who was an inspiration and model of love and courage to all who knew her. Even after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 18 years ago, she never asked why but tried to continue with her work and maintain her home as her body slowly faded. She was concerned with the well-being of others who were sick and suffering, never showing any self-pity or anger over her own condition. She was born April 13, 1960, to Leslie A. and

Steven D. Sterne

Steven D. Sterne, 51, Rosemont, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Crossroads Care Center, Woodstock. He was born July 15, 1963, to Wesley and Jacquelyn (Balfe) Sterne in Elgin. He was a chef with Rosemont Catering Service.  He enjoyed fishing and golf and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Survivors include a daughter, Taylor (David) Rossman; a grandson, Grant Rossman; two brothers, Wesley (Cheri) Sterne and Rodney (Lisa) Sterne; two sisters, Terrie (David) Welch and Michelle (Donald Nowack) Chapman; nine nieces and nephews; five great-nieces and -nephews; and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew. Visitation was held Jan. 16 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.  The funeral was Jan. 17. 

Thomas D. Cashin

Thomas D. Cashin, 74, Wonder Lake, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, at Centegra-McHenry. He was born Mar. 8, 1940, to Thomas Q. and Ruth (Tripp) Cashin in Woodstock. On Mar. 11, 1960, he married Joyce Gladden at Nativity Lutheran Church, Wonder Lake. He owned and operated Cashin Construction until he retired in 2000. He enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota, spending time with his friends at the Busy Bee and also his cocker spaniel, Little Girl. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Cashin and Greg (Jennifer) Cashin; four grandchildren, Madelyn, Ricky, Allyson and Kelsey; two brothers, Charles (Trish) Cashin and James (Mary) Cashin; two sisters, Carole (Cliff) Olsen and Betty Schlieben; and many nieces and nephews.
