Joyce Ann Roberts 86

Joyce Ann Roberts 86, formerly of Woodstock, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2018, at Northwoods Care Center in Belvidere. She was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Chicago to Carl and Anne (Collison) McWherter. She married Rhys Roberts on March 3, 1951. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Woodstock, and was also a Women Of the Moose in Woodstock. She is survived by two daughters, Katie (Ken) Spoerlein and Deb (Norm) Carlson; also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, David Roberts; a brother, Al; and a sister, Sue. The visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2018, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin

Nina R. Ray, 77

Nina R. Ray, of Woodstock, peacefully passed away at home on Nov. 9, 2018, with her loving family by her side. Nina was born Oct. 2, 1941, in Corinth, Miss., the daughter of Estes and Grace (Latch) McLemore. She married Jerry L. Ray on Dec. 21, 1958, in Ripley, Tenn. They moved to Woodstock in 1970 to raise their family. Nina was employed by Hartwig Hartoglass for many years, and Zeronine until her retirement in 2015. She loved spending her time with friends and family, and enjoyed sitting around the table laughing, telling stories, playing games, and doing puzzles. Her absolute favorite thing to do was spend time with her three grandchildren, Tyler, Jerred and Ali, whom she adored. The

Louis Joseph Edward Czarny, 72

Louis Joseph Edward Czarny, age 72, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill., after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family. Lou was born on May 6, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., to Louis J. and Ruth H. (Shearer) Czarny. On Aug. 16, 1969, he married Janie Raffelson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Des Plaines, Ill. Lou graduated from St. Philip Basilica High School, Chicago, Ill., in 1964 and from Milton College, Milton, Wis., in 1970 with a B.A. degree in English. Not long after graduation from college, Lou enlisted in the United States Navy in service of his country for 22 years (8 years active duty and 14 years reserve). During his

Donald William Gibson Sr. 74

Donald William Gibson Sr. 74, of Woodstock, Ill., lost his courageous battle to cancer on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018. He passed away at Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital, Huntley Ill., surrounded by those he loved. Don was born Sept. 24, 1944, in Woodstock, Ill. to the late Donald F. Gibson and Joan Gibson Schroeder. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Doloris “Dolly” Burke, on July 27, 1963, at St. Patrick Church, Hartland, Ill. Don graduated from Woodstock High School. He was very active in sports. Don was a very hard worker and found a great deal of satisfaction and pride in his work. Dorothy A. Silliman, 97

Dorothy A. Silliman, age 97, of Oconomowoc, Wis., formerly from Woodstock, Ill., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018. Dorothy is survived by her children, Gregory (Sharon) Silliman, Scott (Carol) Silliman, and DeeAnn (Len) Hadovski; her nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; her three sisters; along with nieces, nephews, family and friends. Dorothy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Silliman, along with her parents and her two brothers and eight sisters. Private family services were held. A future burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Woodstock, Ill. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, for the loving care shown to mom and the family. Donations

Gilbert J. Carroll Jr., 95

Gilbert J. Carroll Jr. of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., passed away Oct. 30, 2018, in his home surrounded and cared for by his loving family. He was born on the family farm, Dec. 27, 1922 in Hartland, Ill., to Gilbert J. and Rose A. (McCabe) Carroll. Following his military service in the Army during WWII and upon completion of his college degree from the University of Illinois, he married Bonnie J. Ferguison on Feb.18, 1950, in St. Patrick’s Church in Hartland. They began married life in Woodstock, and his career in sales with Kraft Foods took them to Chicago, Rockford, Elk Grove Village, and ultimately to Wiesbaden, Germany, where he worked for eight years. John E. Bersch, 80, of Sheboygan, Wis., passed into eternal life on Monday, Oct. 22, 2018, at Sunny Ridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born Feb. 8, 1938, in Sheboygan to Frank and Esther (Ries) Bersch. John attended St. Dominic Catholic Grade School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the Class of 1955. John’s working years were mainly spent as a delivery truck driver. John loved music and had a rich bass voice. He sang with the Catholic Male Chorus and various church choirs and high school choruses and operettas. John also loved cars and knew the specs and reliability on almost every car ever manufactured. Harold Brough, 83

Harold Brough, 83, of Hawthorne, Fla., formerly Richmond and Woodstock, passed away Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at his home. He was born in Berwyn, Ill., on Feb. 27, 1935, a son of the late David and Judith (Havranack) Brough. He was married to Georgia Townsend on March 9, 1957, in Woodstock, and she passed away March 3, 2013. He served in the U.S. Army from February 1958 to January 1960. He was a member of VFW, American Legion, and Elks. He worked as a carpenter for several companies, retiring from Ashbach-Vanselow in Mundelein, Ill., after 30 years in November 1998. Cyndra L. Relue, 58, of Woodstock, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Northwestern Medicine Hospital-Huntley. She was born July 23, 1960, in Munich, Germany, to Paul and Peggy (Worm) Miotto. She was a graduate of Woodstock Community High School, where she played in the band. She participated in girls softball, and took some college courses at McHenry County College before beginning her career as a court clerk for Judge Arnold. She later worked at Sullivan Foods in Marengo. She loved camping at the family farm in Illinois and camping in Wisconsin. She especially loved her family, and they loved her. Gerald Eugene Farver, 88

Gerald Eugene Farver was born Feb. 17, 1930, to Jesse Guy and Addie Viola Farver on the farm in Franklin Grove Illinois. He passed away Oct. 19, 2018. He graduated from Ashton High School in 1948, and married Evelyn Rieken Feb. 10, 1951. They had twin boys born March 24, 1952, Kenneth and Keith, and divorced in January 1973. Gerald worked for Englewood Electric and Dixon Electronics and later owned Meadow Mart Car Wash in Loves Park, Ill., until retiring in 1992. He married Veva May Carr March 2, 1974, in Rockford, Ill.
