Oliver “Bud” Garrison

Oliver “Bud” Garrison, 86, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at his home. He was born May 7, 1927, in Salem to Charles and Bernice (Brown) Garrison. On May 12, 1945, he married Julia Legler at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Hartland. He was a veteran, serving in the United States Army during World War II and stationed in Germany. For 35 years he worked for Northern Illinois Gas Company. He enjoyed camping with his family, fishing and woodworking. Mostly he loved spending time with his grandchild and great-grandchild. Survivors include his wife; a son, James (Ann) Garrison; a daughter, Teresa Herendeen; a grandson, Tobias (Cindy) Herendeen; a great-grandson, Garrison Herendeen; a sister, Mable Harwood; and many nieces and nephews. Cole Burton Johansen

Cole “CJ” “Coach J” Burton Johansen, 67, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Woodstock, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at home, surrounded by his wife and loved ones after losing his fourth battle with cancer .  He was born May 20, 1946, to Charles and Evalyn Peterson Johansen in Woodstock. On July 2, 2006, he married Trudy in a garden wedding in the backyard of their home in Iowa.  He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1964, where he played football and basketball and participated in track. In basketball his senior year, he and his best friend Don Anderson were the number one and two leading scorers, respectively, in their conference. Richard Morelli Pace

Richard Morelli Pace, 84, Woodstock, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. He was a long-time educator and retired principal of Northwood Junior High School in Woodstock. Survivors include his wife, Barbara (Ryan); a daughter, Patricia (Peter) Baltes; a son, Michael (Linda) Pace; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Briana, Carly, Jessica and Dominic. Memorial services were private.

Nancy Thomas

Nancy (Murray) Thomas, 64, Lakeland, Fla., died of cancer Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.  She was a business owner. Services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Hartland.

Barbara Susan Scibetta

Barbara Susan Scibetta, 63, Woodstock, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Cancer Treatment Center in Zion. She was born Sept. 25, 1951, to Miriam Norman and Miriam (McDermott) Scibetta in Elgin. On March 20, 1977, she married Scott Offord, whom she met when they were students at Northern Illinois University. She was proud of her Irish and Italian heritage, and she kept her family name when she was married. The couple enjoyed traveling, walking and bicycling with each other and their friends. They were active members of the McHenry County Bicycle Club. She learned to swim in order to compete in the Crystal Lake Triathlon in 1984. Their family traveled to Ireland in 1997. Carolina P. Flood

Carolina P. Flood, 80, Woodstock, formerly of New Orleans, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, in Woodstock. She was born Oct. 23, 1933, to Vicente and Carolina (Estevenez) Platero in the Philippines .    On May 19, 1954, she married Mayland D. Flood in Manila.  She enjoyed gardening. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and she will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia and Catherine Flood; a son, Mayland P. Flood; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Flood Davis and Richard Flood; a sister, Lordes Arellano; and two brothers, George and Jose Platero. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jan. 27, 2014.; a son, William Flood; and a grandson, Joseph Flood. A

Michael Wurtz

Michael W. Wurtz, 47, Woodstock, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock. He was born April 22, 1966, to William N. and Ilyce (Tilden) Wurtz in Des Plaines.  On Sept. 8, 2012, he married Melissa M. Suriano at Fire Station #3 in Woodstock. He started with the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District in January 2002. He became a full-time firefighter July 17, 2006, under Badge Number 22, and was attached to Station #2. He also was a police officer with the McCullom Lake Police Department. He served as a MABAS Division 5 Fire Investigator, was part of the Lake/McHenry County Wildland Firefighting Team and was a member of the AFFI State Honor Guard. Mary L. Collins

Mary L. Collins, 83, Madison, Wis., formerly of Woodstock, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, in Madison. She was born April 29, 1930, to Walter and Alice (Granger) Robinson in Chicago. She lived in Woodstock the majority of her life before moving to Madison 22 years ago. She worked at Precision Twist in Crystal Lake for 30 years, IGA and A&P grocery stores in Woodstock, and was a trusted and loved employee of Pierce’s Little Store. She attended Luther Memorial Church in Madison. She was an avid bowler. Survivors include her best friend and partner, Bob Edwards; three sisters, Jane Fish, Judy Walters and Marge Redding; six children, Jean (Jerry) Krocke, Peg (Ken) Stubner, Susan (Gene) Hinderliter, Brion (Lynn), Candy (Wayne)

Lawrence C. Dhom

Lawrence C. Dhom, 88, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock.  He was born June 8, 1925, to Charles and Josephine (Loebmeier) Dhom in Newton.  On Nov. 8, 1947, he married Shirley M. Salzman in Woodstock.  He was a World War II veteran. As a U.S. Marine, he served in the Pacific Theater with the First Armored Amphibian Battalion. During his career, he operated Larry’s Shoe Service in Woodstock, worked many years at the Woodstock Die Cast Company and the Woodstock city water treatment plant. He was a life member of the Woodstock VFW, a volunteer with the VFW Honor Guard, a past Grand Knight and member of the Woodstock Knights of Columbus and a member of St.

Theresa Jakubowski

Theresa Jakubowski, 84, formerly of Wonder Lake, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, in Reno, Nev., with her three children by her side. She was born Sept. 30, 1929, to Walenty and Stanislawa Wozniak in Chicago. In 1951 she married Gene Jakubowski. She attended Gage Park High School and competed in the Girls Athletic Association. After graduating she worked for the Polish Roman Catholic Union. She helped organize a women’s basketball team and traveled to tournaments where she met her husband.  In 1959 she and her husband moved to Wonder Lake, where they raised their three children. She worked as a cafeteria manager at Greenwood School.  They moved to Reno, Nev., in 1988. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren, travel and
