Marlon H. Gray

Marlon H. Gray, 78, Woodstock, died suddenly Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at his home. He was born March 29, 1937, to Coy and Lillian Gray in Princeton, Ky.  On Sept. 23, 1961, he married Dorothy M. Spaulding. He was a 1956 graduate of Woodstock Community High School and served in the U.S. Army. A lifelong carpenter and general contractor, he loved his work. In 1988, he and his son, Nickolas, formed North Suburban Builders Inc. He served as president. He was a longtime member of the McHenry County Home Builders Association, serving on the board of directors and as secretary, vice president and president. Raymond H. Stanger

Raymond H. Stanger, 90, Tampa, Fla., formerly of Woodstock, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at his home. He was born Nov. 11, 1924, to William and Emma (Backus) Stanger in Woodstock.   He married Lucille L. Pierce and together they celebrated more than 63 years of marriage. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed on PT boats.  He worked for Woodstock Die Cast for more than 38 years. He loved golf and was a lifetime member of Woodstock VFW Post 5040 and the Moose Lodge. He was proud to have fought for his country and for liberty. Marvin Jarrett Kimball

Marvin Jarrett Kimball, 79, Woodstock, died Thursday, April 16, 2015, at home with his wife at his side.  He was born July 3, 1935, in Silver Lake, Wis., to Arthur and Esther Kimball. On April 7,1956, he married Beverly Joann Gensch of Woodstock. He was a dedicated employee at Union Special of Huntley for 38 years. As a craftsman, he enjoyed constructive labor, and his greatest pride was building the family homestead. He would head to Wisconsin every spring to collect maple syrup and in the offseason practiced garden farming. His greatest passion was being the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In his spare time he used his talents to teach all his descendants how to live

Charles G. “Sam” Smith

Charles G. “Sam” Smith, 95, Woodstock, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at home surrounded by family and loved ones.  He was born Sept. 2, 1919, in Hebron, to Charles and Jennie (DenBesten) Smith, the seventh of eight siblings. Sam served in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II in the Pacific.  On July 5, 1947, he married Marie G. Scaran in Chicago.  He was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a school bus driver for Woodstock School District 200 until retirement. Skilled at working with wood, he handcrafted and painted ornamental birds for family and friends. Thomas J. Roach IV

Thomas J. Roach IV, 33, formerly of Woodstock, died unexpectedly Dec. 10, 2014, at his home in Chicago. He was born Aug. 17, 1981, in Park Ridge.   His family moved from Des Plaines to Woodstock in 1982.  He attended McHenry County College and Northern Illinois University.  He was employed at Erwin Junker Machinery, Elgin. Survivors include his father, Thomas J. Roach III; his mother and stepfather, Judith (Tim) Low; his twin sister, Sarah Marie Roach; two brothers, Michael Eck and Gregory Eck; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Thomas and Shirley Roach II; his maternal grandparents, George and Junella Schwankoff; and an aunt, Marilyn Schwankoff. Elaine J. Stock

Elaine J. Stock, 82, Rockford, died Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at Alpine Fireside Health Center, Rockford. She was born Sept. 19, 1932,  to Paul and Ella (Schmarje) Hildebrandt in Woodstock.  On Sept. 24, 1955, she married Jack W. Stock in Woodstock.  She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Machesney Park, where she was active for many years.  She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.  She worked for several florists in the area including Nelson’s Flowers, which she owned for nine years.  She enjoyed the outdoors, bird-watching and baking, but mostly she loved spending time with her sons and grandchildren.  Survivors include three sons, Mark (Jody) Stock, Douglas (Dawn) Stock and David (Tina) Stock; five grandchildren, Andria (Stephen) Brass, Nathan

Clarence P. Stackhouse

Clarence P. Stackhouse, 88, rural Woodstock, died at home Wednesday, April 15, 2015, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born Dec. 30, 1926, to Ralph and Clara Stackhouse in Geneva, Iowa. On Dec. 30, 1947, he married Joyce E. White at her parents’ home. He farmed in rural Woodstock all his life. He also worked as a custodian at Marengo High School for more than 20 years. Survivors include his wife; three children, Jane (Ray) Kastning, Richard (Joyce) Stackhouse and Steven (Linda) Stackhouse; eight grandchildren, Michael Kastning, Lori (Mike) Miles, Richard (Jessica) Stackhouse Jr., Jennifer (Scott) Wolf, Kristina (Willie) Seager, Scott (Shawn) Lehman, Keith (Lisa) Lehman and Michelle (Steve) Polizzi; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Eugenia Pearl Mansfield

Eugenia Pearl Mansfield, 88, Tomah, Wis., formerly of Woodstock, died Friday, April 10, 2015, surrounded by her loved ones at Tomah Hospital. She was born July 26, 1926, to Nils Edwin and Petra Malmstrom on a farm in Bull Valley. On May 17, 1947, she married the love of her life, Albert Mansfield Jr. She was a graduate of Woodstock High School and started her working career as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell. She spent the majority of her work life, however, in the medical field, at Kishwaukee Valley Medical Center and Memorial Hospital, Woodstock.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Tomah and a past member of the Woodstock VFW Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order

Anna Rybaruk

Anna Rybaruk, 95, Aurora, formerly of Woodstock, died Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Alden of Waterford Nursing Home, Aurora. She was of Ukrainian descent, born on May 12, 1919, to George and Henrika Miz in Lvov, Poland. After relocating to Austria as a deplaced person, she studied pharmacy before coming to America in 1950 with her parents and daughter Christine to live in Chicago. She moved to Woodstock in 1952 after marrying Petro Rybaruk. She worked with her husband at Hinner Rose Farm for several years. She then worked for Guardian Electric until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her cats. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. Survivors include a daughter, Christine Chawgo;

Robert D. Tompkins

Robert D. Tompkins, 78, Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Woodstock, died July 5, 2014, in Arizona. He was born Jan. 24, 1936. Survivors include his wife, Donna (Birk); two sisters, Hylah Pollock, Nampa, Idaho, and Gladys Keenen, Lowell, Ark.; and three sons from a previous marriage, Dean, Duane and Danny Hummell, all of Kane County. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. until the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at the Grace Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock. Arrangements were made by Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary, Glendale, Ariz. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
