Mary A. “Moira” Davis

Mary A. “Moira” Davis, 83, formerly of the Bull Valley and Woodstock area, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at Wauconda Care Center, Wauconda, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 14, 1931, in Winnipeg, Canada, to Francis Patrick and Frances (O’Connor) Gilligan. 

Raised in Canada, she was educated at St. Mary’s Academy, Winnipeg. She lived in several areas of the Midwest before moving to San Rafael, Calif., in the mid-1960s. After returning, she remained in the Bull Valley and Woodstock area for more than 50 years, traveling extensively nationally and internationally.

Earlier in her career, she worked for a Winnipeg newspaper. After moving to New York City, she was employed as a flight attendant for TWA and trainer with the John Robert Powers modeling agency. She owned her own business as a distributor for Neo-Life/GNLD, a vitamin and skin care company, for more than 25 years. She was a member of Women in Management and led its “Promote Yourself” workshops as well as leadership seminars for other groups.

She was a member of The Church of Holy Apostles, McHenry, and a former member of St. Mary Church, Woodstock. She enjoyed traveling and loved being a grandmother and spending time with her grandchildren. Her family was always her priority.

Survivors include four children, Moira Davis, Wauconda, Roy (Shana) Davis, Northfield, Patricia “Trish” (Stephen) Mathews, Wonder Lake, and Erin Davis, Holly, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Jonah, Julia, Danielle, Olivia, Mercedes, Mason and Austin; a sister, Patricia Gilligan; a brother, Frank Gilligan; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Gilligan.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation and funeral were held May 6 at The Church of Holy Apostles, McHenry. Interment was in The Church of Holy Apostles Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Ste. 800, Chicago, IL 60631.

Arrangements were made by Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home.
