Emery Allen Cross Jr., 72, Kimberling City, Mo.

Emery Allen Cross Jr., 72, Kimberling City, Mo., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015, in Branson, Mo.  He was born Jan. 3, 1943, to Emery Sr. and Glenna Cross in Harvard.  On April 12, 1991, he was joined in marriage to Ida Mae.  He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, doing bodywork on cars and watching the Green Bay Packers. He loved his dog, Lucy. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1329 in Woodstock and Elks Lodge 2505 in Kimberling City.  He loved his family and will be missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Elizabeth Carroll, Sharon, Wis., and Amanda (Paul) Fahrenbach, North Fork, W.V.; two stepdaughters, Cynthia (Jesse) McGee, Kentucky, and Suzanne (Jason) Huckabee, McHenry;

Grace W. Carlson, 94, Wheaton

Grace W. Carlson, 94, Wheaton, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 30, 1921, to Grace (Holveck) and William Wimmer in Chicago. She grew up in Portage Park and graduated from Carl Schurz High School and Northwestern University, Evanston, with a degree in education. She and her husband, Joseph, moved to Glen Ellyn in 1947 where they raised four children. She taught at Sunset Ridge School in Northfield while her husband attended Northwestern University and at Ben Franklin School in Glen Ellyn for 26 years. She enjoyed reading, music, travel, aerobics and loved looking after her granddaughter Sarah.  While living in Glen Ellyn, she was active in the Glen

Joseph P. Slavin, 56, Woodstock

Joseph P. Slavin, 56, Woodstock, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at his home. He was born April 15, 1959, to James and Frances (Andrews) Slavin in Woodstock.  He was a graduate of Hebron High School and the University of Illinois before his life was greatly affected by a mental illness. Despite his own struggles, he was an advocate for the National Alliance on Mental Illness and served as a representative of the members council at Thresholds. He was an avid reader and spent much time at the Woodstock Public Library. He enjoyed taking walks, studying ecology and getting together for family gatherings. He will be missed by all who knew him. Marc Dennis Granzetto, 44, Woodstock

Marc Dennis Granzetto, 44, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015. He was born Nov. 4, 1971, to Dennis and Geri (Williams) Granzetto in Somerville, N.J. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and cousin.  He was a best friend to many, with an unbelievably loving heart. Survivors include his mother; two brothers, Kurt (Staci) Granzetto and Craig (Charlene) Granzetto; six nephews; one niece; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father in 2011; an aunt, Joan Fazekas; a nephew, Skylar Granzetto; a niece, Isabella Granzetto; and two cousins, Kyle Granzetto and Tamara Lizzi. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312

Richard C. Polnow, 90, Belvidere, Formerly of Union

Richard C. Polnow, 90, Belvidere, formerly of Union, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2015.  He was born April 18, 1925, to George and Florence (Bloedorn) Polnow in Marengo.  On Nov. 29, 1947, he married Arlene Schiller in Marengo. A United States Army veteran, he served in the Korean War. He retired from Freund Equipment after 36 years of employment. He was a member of the Teamsters and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed playing poker, bike riding, being outdoors, spending time with his dogs and, most of all, spending time with his family. Survivors include six children, Dawn Colwell, Daniel (Sharon) Polnow, Douglas (Mary) Polnow, Denise (Pete) Frohling, Dennis Polnow and Dick (Sue) Polnow; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and

Linda J. Lockwood, 68, Crystal Lake

Linda J. Lockwood, 68, Crystal Lake, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Centegra Hospital- Woodstock. She was born Oct. 24, 2015, to William and Harriet (Ludwig) Lewis in DeKalb. On April 11, 1973, she married Richard Lockwood. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a waitress. She loved watching and feeding wild birds outside and pet birds inside. She was loved and will be missed. Survivors include her husband; a son, Jeffrey (Barbara) Lockwood; a daughter, Coreen (Clayton) Martinico; five grandchildren, Hunter and Zakery Lockwood and Anthony, Daniella and Alexandria Martinico. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Geri Freeman; and her step-mother, Delores Noe. Services were private.  Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin

Virginia T. Betts, 78, Woodstock

  Virginia T. Betts, 78, Woodstock, formerly of Park Ridge, died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry. She was born Sept. 1, 1937, to Walter and Augusta Scislowicz, Chicago. Survivors include four children, Robert, John, Sharon (Ray) Ritthamel and Michelle; a brother, Walter Scislowicz; six grandchildren, Kyle, Trevor, Jake, Daniel, Sam and Adam; a brother, Walter; two nieces, Gail and Susan; and two nephews, William and Steven. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert M. Betts; a sister, Anne Mazer; and a brother, Edward Scislowicz.  Services were private.  

Vernon E. Fehrman, 92, Woodstock

  Vernon E. Fehrman, 92, Woodstock, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2015, at Valley Hi Nursing Home, Hartland. He was born Oct. 16, 1923, in Woodstock to William and Elsie (Krause) Fehrman.  On June 4, 1949, he married Beverly Krabbenhoft in Woodstock. He was a farmer all his life, continuing until he was 89 years old. He also worked 20 years for the McHenry County Highway Department. He enjoyed his family and friends and also a good fish fry. His laughs and sense of humor will be missed by all. Survivors include a son, Daniel W. Fehr-man, Woodstock; a daughter, Martha (Dave) Freund, Woodstock; two grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Miller and Luke (Kristie) Freund; and five great-grandchildren, Destiny, Aaron, Jordan, Cody and Alyssa. Enrique R. Vidales, 75, Woodstock

Enrique R. Vidales, 75, Woodstock, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at Centegra Hospital-McHenry. He was born Jan. 16, 1940, to Enriquez and Josefa (Reyes) Vidales in San Antonio, Texas. On April 13, 1960, he married Abundia Garcia. He was a migrant worker, and his strong work ethic kept him busy on many area farms including the Norman and Edward Sass farm. He also worked as a groundskeeper at the McGuire Estate. For the past few years, he worked at Marian Central Catholic High School as a custodian. He loved gardening and kept himself busy with a mowing and landscaping business. He was loved and will be missed. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Henry (Laura) Vidales and Roger (Becky) Vidales;

Harold 'Hal' Baker, 74, Woodstock

Harold “Hal” Baker, 74, Woodstock, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington surrounded by the love of his family. He was born Oct. 2, 1941, to George and Alice Baker in Woodstock.  On Feb. 23, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Crystal Scott. He went to school in Woodstock and continued his education at Trinidad College in Colorado and at Northern Illinois University. After four years serving in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to Woodstock and worked in sales, eventually opening Sound Advice and later America’s Best Audio-Video. He also served as assessor for Dorr Township. He had a lifelong interest in hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Woodstock Jaycees
