John ‘Jack’ Haldeman, 75,

John “Jack” Haldeman, 75, of Woodstock, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2020, at the Northwestern Hospital-Huntley. He was born in Woodstock on May 23, 1945, to George and Rita (Phannenstill) Haldeman. He married Patricia Smith on June 26, 1965, in Woodstock. Jack was owner and operator of Haldeman and Sons Excavating Co. in Woodstock. He was a graduate of Woodstock Community High School in the class of 1963. He was a volunteer on the Woodstock Rural Fire Department for 30 years and was a lifetime member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge. He enjoyed bowling, softball, fishing, travel, and gambling. Donna Faye Ward (Hollenbeck), 89

Donna Faye Ward (Hollenbeck), 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Woodstock on Nov. 23, 2020, of natural causes.  She was born on the family farm on Christmas Eve 1930 and was the oldest of the four Hollenbeck girls. Her parents were Luella (Schmidt) and George W. Hollenbeck who had a fruit and vegetable stand on Route 173 outside of Hebron during the Great Depression. She attended grade and high school in Hebron, Ill., and graduated from Hebron High School in 1948. In 1950 she married her high school sweetheart, James Clement Ward, who was drafted and served in Korea for the next two years. Jane Ann Kennedy Dahm, 89

Jane Ann Kennedy Dahm, age 89, of Woodstock, Ill., passed away on Nov. 24, 2020, at Northwestern Hospital McHenry due to complications from COVID.  She was born on Aug. 1, 1931, in Woodstock, the daughter of Charles and Leonie Kennedy. She Married George A. Dahm on Aug. 5, 1951.  Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was very involved in her children’s school activities and enjoyed participating and watching their events. She served as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and was a strong supporter of the McHenry County Fair. She served as a superintendent of the antique show for many years. Dianne R. (Church) Reeves, 73

Dianne R. (Church) Reeves, age 73, passed away Nov. 20, 2020, in Woodstock with her family by her side. She was born in Woodstock, Illl., on Dec. 23, 1946, to Robert and Hazel (Sweet) Church.  Dianne graduated from Woodstock High School in 1965. She worked as a 911 McHenry County dispatcher for 18 years for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. She was an artist and loved to draw, write and had perfect handwriting. She enjoyed love stories, scary movies, music and margaritas. She was loved by many, was a dear mother, friend and will be deeply missed.  She is survived by her children, Michael (Lois) Casper, Andrea (David) Jones and David “Eli” Reeves; seven grandchildren, Trey (Brittany) Casper, Shea Jones,

Ann (Spuehler) Kohl, 85

Ann (Spuehler) Kohl, 85, passed away on Nov 9, 2020 in Schaumburg, Ill. Ann was born Oct. 13, 1935, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Ernst Spuehler and Elizabeth Walser. She was married to Lou Kohl in 1954 and lived in Palatine, Ill., where they raised their family. Ann was a manager at the Mount Prospect Bank as well as being a homemaker. Ann and Lou moved to Woodstock, Ill., in the 1980s and enjoyed their long-time home together until Lou passed away in 2007. Ann was an avid gardener, artist, competitive tennis player, and an excellent cook. Her cookie-baking skills will be sorely missed. She was a caring friend with a kind word for all. LaVerne J. Armiger, 97

LaVerne J. Armiger, age 97, passed away Nov. 10, 2020 in McHenry, Ill. She was born on March 5, 1923, in Chicago to Frank and Josephine (Marsalek) Trcka. She married David Armiger in West Chicago. LaVerne worked in the purchasing department for American Medical Association. She and her husband, David, owned E-Zee Rental in Sycamore, Ill. She was an animal lover, owning dogs and two horses. She lived in Winfield, Ill., for over 45 years before moving to Woodstock for the past several years. She enjoyed fishing, boating and water skiing at the family’s summer home on Lauderdale Lakes in Wisconsin. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Gregory) Eriksen, and grandchildren, Keith and Rachel Eriksen. She was preceded in

David Edward Lyon, 76

David Edward Lyon (Dave), beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in Woodstock, Ill., on Oct. 18, 2020, after a bout with emphysema and pneumonia. He will be deeply missed. Born on Dec. 11, 1943, in Tuscola, Ill., to Richard and Ruth (Bigler) Lyon, Dave graduated from Urbana High School in 1961. He joined the Marines Reserve (Reserve Officer Training Corps), where he trained for two years and became a lance corporal; he was called to the Bay of Pigs, but never went to Cuba because the mission was called off. Margaret Magdalene Grell, 74

Margaret Magdalene Grell, age 74, of Woodstock, passed away Oct. 26, 2020, after a courageous battle with illness. She was born on Jan. 6, 1946, in Chicago, Ill. She married the love of her life, Edwin A. Grell, on July 18, 1970, and together they built a life and family filled with boundless love, joy, and laughter. She is survived by her husband, Edwin; sons Thomas (Annette) Grell and Jonathon (Jacqueline) Grell; daughter Jennamarie (Travis) Test; grandchildren Jerred, Alexandria, Edwin, Bradley, Nicholas, William, and Kaitlyn; brothers Stanley, Glenn and Arthur, sister Genevieve; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is proceeded in death by her parents, Magdalene, and Anthony Covelli, and her brother, Anthony Covelli Jr.  She was well known

Betty Jane (Rasmussen) Mishler, 96

Betty Jane (Rasmussen) Mishler, 96, passed away peacefully at her home in Woodstock, Ill., on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020. Betty was born July 25, 1924, in Marengo, Ill., to Sewald and Agnes Rasmussen.  She met the love of her life, Dean Mishler, at the roller rink in Marengo. She always joked “they had been going round and round ever since.” They married on Feb. 9, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church. They lived a fun-filled, adventurous 66 years of marriage. Betty was a homemaker and raised three boys. She loved to cook and bake. She loved going to church, playing cards, and socializing. She loved reading her Bible every morning and evening. Margaret Ann Lewellyn, 87

Margaret Ann Lewellyn, age 87, of Woodstock, passed away Oct. 13, 2020, with her loving family by her side. She was born on March 28, 1933, in Macomb, Ill., to Floyd and Ethyl Garnet (Hellyer) Ellis. She married the love of her life, Bruce Lewellyn, on June 7, 1959. Margaret loved teaching all her life. She was the director for Vacation Bible School for 25 years. She was a Sunday school teacher for 10 years and enjoyed teaching her 2-year-old class. She enjoyed playing the organ and was the only Sunday organ player at her church from 1960 through 1976. She enjoyed playing and listening to music, gardening, vacationing to the Gulf of Mexico, and spending time with her grandchildren.
