Shirley E. Harper

Shirley E. Harper, 82, Huntley, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014, at her home.
She was born Dec. 14, 1931, to Elmer and Dorothy (Betts) Hemzacek in Chicago.  
On June 22, 1956, she married Robert J. Harper in Chicago.  
She worked for the Salvation Army for more than 20 years, running the Golden Diner and Meals on Wheels in Woodstock.  She was an avid reader.  She also enjoyed traveling with family, doing ceramics and playing cards.
Survivors include three children, Kathleen (Chris) Scotti, Robert J. (Janice) Harper Jr. and Kevin (Carrie) Harper; nine grandchildren, Sarah (Ike) Hanson, Raymond Scotti, Randy (Rachel) Harper, Brooke Harper, Curtis Harper, Colin Harper, Darlene (Buck Bailey) Foley, Anthony (Lori) Scotti and Jeanine (Scott) Gul; 13 great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Ryan, Mackenzie, Kyleen, Angelyn, Caleb, Edward, Cristy, Timothy, Cory, Brandon, Ashley and Anthony; four siblings, Jean Drew, Carol (Frank) Sutfin, James (Karen) Hemzacek and Susan (James) O’Neill; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband in 1984.
Visitation and funeral were held Nov. 8 at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.  Burial was at the McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to Home of the Sparrow or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
