Scott S. Johnson was born Oct. 30, 1962, in Harvard, Ill., to Stanley and Marjorie (Cosman) Johnson. He passed away suddenly of natural causes in the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his home in Woodstock.
Scott graduated from Woodstock High School in 1981. He then graduated from Bob Jones University in 1985.
Scott is survived by his children, Mick Johnson, Courtney Larsen, Julia (William) Repke, Wyatt (Alison) Johnson, Hunter Johnson, and Solomon Johnson; grandchildren, Kaiya, Elianna, and Thias Larsen, Clara and Evan Repke, and Theo Johnson; his parents, Stanley and Marjorie Johnson; sister, Rosemary (Timothy) Williams; as well as nieces, Rebecca and Colleen.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gennifer, whom he met in Dallas, Texas, while he was in seminary and she was a nanny. They married on May 14, 1988, in Dallas. They were happily married for 36 years.
Scott was a devoted pastor from 1990 in churches in Indiana and later in Illinois until his death. He served extensively in head pastorship, assistant pastorship, Awana Ministries, Youth & College/Career Ministries, church softball teams, Bible Quizzing Youth Ministries, and Church Planting Ministries.
Scott and his family returned to his roots of farming when they moved to his childhood farm in 2008. Together, he and Gennifer ran Brookdale Road Farm, raising cattle and chickens, selling vegetables at various farmers markets from their garden, and giving their children a loving, peaceful upbringing on the farm.
In his final years, he devoted his life to helping the community of Sharon, Wis. He served as church planter and pastor of The Old Bell Tower Church, where he started the greatly impactful Community Closet, and also loved ministries such as Vacation Bible School and the Community Book Shoppe. He spent much of his time visiting all the shops and restaurants of Sharon, always saying hello to folks and pouring into their lives. He even started his own shop alongside his daughter, Courtney, The Sharon Outpost.
Pastor Scott’s favorite hobbies included listening to classic vinyl records, watching inspirational movies, enjoying his Chicago sports teams, spending time with his grandchildren, and traveling to bed- and-breakfasts with his wife, Gennifer.
His most recent endeavor was co-founding Silverstage Theatre Company alongside his son, Hunter. This company will continue to create uplifting productions in memory of Scott’s legacy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Woodstock Assembly of God Church, 1201 Dean St., Woodstock, from 5 until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the church. A private family burial at Chemung Cemetery will follow.
