Thomas E McGuine passed away peacefully surrounded by family at his home in Woodstock on May 2, 2019. Born in Harvard, Feb. 14, 1932, to Betty and Raymond McGuine Sr. Tom was the youngest of three children. He graduated from Harvard High School in 1950. He then went into the Navy and served our country for four years during the Korean Conflict. He started college in 1955 at Carthage College in Carthage, Ill., where he met Carol J. Nelson. They were married on Aug. 3, 1957, in Racine, Wis. He finished his B.S. degree in business and graduated in 1959. Ben Rosenfield, age 66, of Woodstock, passed away April 29, 2019, at his home beside his wife. He was born on June 5, 1952, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Myer and Eva (Riaf) Rosenfield. He married Laurie (Bain) on Aug. 14, 1971. Ben retired in 2007 after being a teacher and principal for 35 years in Round Lake. Well known locally for his pottery and storytelling, Ben could always be counted on to lend a hand to those who were seeking mentoring and would lend his expertise to the leadership of the many organizations related to those activities. Richard Budd Wormley, 70

Budd Wormley was only 70, so he would have liked to live another decade or two, but he confidently left this earth for “the better place” April 28, 2019. Richard Budd Wormley, Millbrook, was the youngest child of Frances (Budd) and Myron Wormley. He was born Aug. 17, 1948, in Aurora. Budd’s passion was fast cars, big engines, and massive machinery. He learned to drive at age 7. He earned his pilot’s license at age 16. His garages and barns recently stabled a Harley-Davidson, Polaris Ranger, Chevy SS, pickup trucks, tractors, backhoes, bulldozer, blacktop equipment, dump truck, and road grader. Ron Bendis, 68

Ron Bendis was born in Chicago to Edward and Lurine Bendis on Jan. 29, 1951, and died of mesothelioma on April 22. Ron played basketball at Bogan High School in Chicago, playing on the all-city team his senior year, and at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. He graduated in 1973 and worked as a Chicago policeman briefly before pursuing an administrative degree. He taught classes and coached basketball in Ottawa and Woodstock, then became assistant principal at Woodstock High School, a position he held for 26 years. He was honored by the Illinois Principals Association as Assistant Principal of the Year in 2009, and by the District 200 Education Foundation with the Susan Palmore Award of Excellence in 2018.

Mae T. Frederick, 99

Mae T. Frederick of Louisville, Colo., age 99, passed away on April 8. She is loved and remembered by her four children, nine grandchildren, and four great-grand children. Daughter of Edward and Martha Schoeneberger, of Niles Center (now Skokie), Ill. She was the wife of the late Harold Frederick. She is survived by her children, Steven Frederick (Kathy), Jan (David) Waltz, Sue (Stephen) Mundorff, and Cathy (John) McLaughlin, and her sister, Luella Smith. She was the proud grandmother of Michael, Jeff, Megan, Jenny, Kirsten, Allison, Patrick, Colin and Liam and great-grandmother of Oliver, Owen, Natalie, and Julia Mae. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; brothers Edward and Roger Schoeneberger; and sister Betty Wetendorf. Mae attended Mundelein College

James D. Hodges, 93

James D. Hodges, 93, of Woodstock, Ill., passed away on Feb 22, 2019, in Surprise, Ariz. Born in Cherokee County, Ga., on June 22, 1925, to George and Ada Elliot Hodges. Jim was their only child. He married Ruth Berg Bohn Hodges on May 11, 1991. Jim was a loan officer at The State Bank of Woodstock for over 20 years and retired from Harris Bank in Barrington. He was very active in Lions Club, Shriners, and was the finance officer at the American Legion. He particularly enjoyed playing “Santa” at the hut on the square and in the Christmas parade. Norma Lucille (Carpenter) Stolz, 85

Norma Lucille (Carpenter) Stolz, 85, of Rockford, Ill., passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019. Norma was born April 2, 1933, in Omaha, Neb., daughter of Willard and Edna Pearl (Whitcomb) Carpenter. She was the oldest of six children and was raised in various locations in western Nebraska as her father was a ranchhand at this time. In 1940, her father bought a farm in Agate, Neb., and the family settled down. Norma was to be found most days helping her father with farm work. She rode horses, drove teams, drove tractor, and learned to drive in a 1929 Ford Model A. She was known for being a typical, ornery farm kid, up to mischief, but always working hard. She attended

Donald R. Lamos, 91

Donald Robert Lamos, 91, of Woodstock, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock. He was born in Chicago on May 24, 1927, to John and Margaret (Collins) Lamos. He married Mary Louise Sheahan on April 28, 1951, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, in Woodstock. Donald was a veteran who served in the Army for both WWII and Korea, and then came home to work in his trade and raise his family. As a profession, he worked for many years in the HVAC/sheet metal industry. A talented worker both at home and on the job, he was known to fix and build anything that needed his attention. Rick Wynn Schaefer unexpectedly passed away on March 17, 2019. He was born in Chicago on Nov. 10, 1964, to Florence and Howard Schaefer. Rick was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, Bulls and Blackhawks even when he moved to Florida. On Jan. 9, 1993, Rick married the love of his life, Antoinette Griseta, and they were married for 26 wonderful years. No one will ever have a love like theirs. Marilyn Joyce Stromstedt Hollister, 84, of Springfield, Tenn., passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Marilyn was born Sept. 18, 1934 in Chicago, Ill., to the late Hugo and Elsbeth Huebner Stromstedt. She was a retired librarian from Woodstock Public Library in Woodstock, Ill. After retirement and moving to Springfield, she worked as a ward clerk at Jesse Holman Jones Hospital. Marilyn was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Hendersonville, Tenn., where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Her favorite hobbies in life were cooking, baking, crafts, Titans’ football, flower gardening, her pets, bird watching, watching the Olympics, and holiday gatherings with her family and friends.
