Marcella Mathilda Habbley, 96

Marcella Mathilda Habbley, 96, of Harvard, died Friday, July 26, 2019, at the Mercy Harvard Care Center. She was born March 2, 1923, in Union, Ill., to Emil and Elsa (Zickuhr) Dorow. Marcella attended Zion Lutheran Elementary and graduated from Marengo Community High School in 1940. She married Clifford Clayton Habbley on May 25, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo. He preceded her in death on Jan. 22, 2006. She worked for the Elgin Watch Factory and the Woodstock Typewriter Factory, later becoming a homemaker after her children were born. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Survivors include her children, Ronald (Judy) Habbley of Marengo, Randy (Sandy) Habbley of Union, Peggy (Rik) Master of Woodstock, Kurt

Caryl Lynne Montgomery, 69

Caryl Lynne Montgomery, 69, of Woodstock, passed away on June 30, 2019. Caryl was born in Sandwich, Ill., on Feb. 8, 1950, to Charles and Charlene (Strode) Montgomery. Caryl attended Woodstock schools and graduated in 1968. She worked for Pete Frate Line for over 30 years. After retirement, Caryl worked for the Hallmark store in Woodstock. Caryl was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock, serving on the preschool board, book club, Bible studies, serving senior luncheons and Lenten soup luncheons. Caryl was also a board member of the Woodstock Public Library. Douglas L. “Doug” Thompson, 62

The family of Doug Thompson, who passed away Feb. 28 earlier this year, would like to invite all who knew him to join them in a celebration of his life on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Niko’s Red Mill in Woodstock, Ill., beginning at 2 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, and a memorial motorcycle ride out to the Thompson farm and back will also leave from Niko’s parking lot at 1 p.m. Please come whenever you can and join us with your stories and memories of Doug.

Susan Albrechtsen Anderson, 71

Susan Albrechtsen Anderson peacefully stepped forward into the next life on Friday, July 19, 2019, at her home in Woodstock, Ill. Susan was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Aug. 31, 1947. She graduated from Clearfield High School as its first National Merit Scholar and attended Brigham Young University, where she met her future husband. She graduated from Weber State College in elementary education with a minor in German. She and her husband, Bruce, were married in Salt Lake City in 1968 and moved to Chicago later that year. She taught elementary school for two years before starting her all-time favorite job as a full-time mom to a family that grew to include six children. She and Bruce called

Betty Eileen Housby, 84

Betty Eileen (Raffel) Housby went to heaven peacefully on July 5, 2019. She was born on Aug. 12, 1934, in Des Plaines, Ill., to the late Herbert and Sophia Raffel. She spent most of her working years as an executive secretary at Intermatic Inc. in Spring Grove, Ill., while raising a son and daughter. She was very involved in her church and also spent many years helping the homeless in Woodstock, Ill., until she relocated to Florida in 2016. Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father; stepmother; and son, Ralph Hemme. Kathleen (Katie) A. Flannigan, 42

Kathleen (Katie) A. Flannigan, age 42, of Woodstock, passed away June 28, 2019, with her loving family and friends by her side. She was born on Aug. 8, 1976, in Woodstock, Ill., to William O’Brien Sr. and Colleen (Joyce) O’Brien. Katie was a paramedic-firefighter for Woodstock for over 10 years. She attended Chamberlain School of Nursing and began her career as an ER nurse at Good Shepherd Hospital. Katie had a passion for helping others. She enjoyed crafting and gardening and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved spending time with her family, children and her friends. Patricia J. McCaleb, 87

Pat McCaleb, 87, passed away on June 11, 2019, in Woodstock. She was born Jan. 25, 1932, in Madison Wis., to William and Harriet (Lewna) Schmidt. Pat’s avocation was singing, beginning in elementary school and continuing through high school and her adult life, participating in Community Theater, community choirs, church choirs, and the Northwest Indiana Symphony Chorus. She also loved playing bridge and golf, as well as traveling. Pat considered her most rewarding accomplishment to be earning her bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University at age 41 while managing a home for her husband and four children. She went on to receive a Master of Science in education from NIU and taught home economics at Woodstock High School for 13

Bruce Lewellyn, 83

Bruce Lewellyn, age 83, passed away June 15, 2019, with his loving family by his side. Bruce was born on May 18, 1936, in Sullivan, Ind., to Lester and Mary (Clerk) Lewellyn. He married the love of his life, Margaret Ellis, on June 7, 1959, and they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Bruce had been in love with watches since his youth and graduated from the Elgin Watchmakers College. He began repairing watches on the Woodstock Square in 1959 and eventually became full owner of Ray Wolf Jewelers in 1984. Bruce was proud to say he was just the third owner in 103 years the store was in operation. He considered it a privilege to have repaired watches and

Everett Donald Hunter, 91

After a lifetime of helping family and friends, Everett Donald Hunter, 91, died at home with his daughter, wife, and grandson on Jan. 10, 2019. Everett was a strong supporter of the McHenry County Fair and a staple of the Hartland community for 70 years. William A. Brucher, 73

William A. Brucher, 73, of Woodstock, passed away on May 24, 2019, in Waukegan. He was born March 16, 1946, in Chicago, the son of Andrew and Lillian (Woods) Brucher. He married Kathi Taylor on Feb. 18, 1996. Mr. Brucher was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Woodstock Police Department after 23 years of service. He had also been a volunteer fireman with the Woodstock Fire Department for 25 years. After retirement, he drove a bus for Woodstock School District 200.
