Roland A. Hasselmann, 76,  Juda, Wis., died Saturday, August 3, 2013, at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.  He was born Nov. 1, 1936, in Des Plaines to Alvin and Florence (Piske) Hasselmann. He graduated from Maine Township High School in Des Plaines.   He joined the US Army Reserves at age 17, and at age 20, joined the US Navy serving in Japan and Alaska. On Aug. 20, 1960, he married Carol Pierce in Woodstock.   They lived in Woodstock for about 30 years, later moving to Boone County and the Rockford area.  They enjoyed wintering in Florida and volunteering at Christian missions and the local church.   He established a mushroom business in the Woodstock area and

Harriette L. Schmidt, 96, Woodstock, died Friday, July 26, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock. She was born Dec. 1, 1916, in Chemung, to Samuel and Harriet (Tripp) Stewart. She worked at Woodstock Die Cast Company for 35 years. She loved to read and watch the Chicago Cubs and Blackhawks. She also was a big fan of the Chicago Bulls. Survivors include a daughter, Margo (Schmidt) King; two granddaughters, Claudine King and Kristine (King) Pourroy; two great-grandsons, Matthew Pourroy and Nicholas Pourroy; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julius Schmidt; two brothers, Milford Stewart and Clarence Stewart; and a sister, Lauretta (Stewart) Kelly. Services were private. 

Maxine K. LeBlanc, 81, Woodstock, formerly of Carpentersville, died Saturday, July 27, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice Inpatient Care Unit in Woodstock surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 13, 1932, in Chicago to Verner and Katherine (Sliz) Johnson.   On July 25, 1953, she married Rudy J. LeBlanc. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Carpentersville.   She worked for a time as a secretary for Illinois Bell Telephone Company. She enjoyed doing crafts, painting ceramics and singing in the church women’s choir.   Most of all, she loved being involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. Nancy Diane Sabaj, 70, Woodstock, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice, Woodstock. She was born Sept. 4, 1942, in Chicago to Randall and Elenora (Salo) Bradley.   On Sept. 10, 1960, she married Dennis F. Sabaj in Chicago. She enjoyed traveling and going on vacations with her family.   She was a fun-loving and caring person with a kind heart and generous soul. Happiness was her first priority, and she made sure everyone else was having a good time, too. She always enjoyed spending time with her loving family and very dear friends. Harriet K. Schultz, 93, Woodstock, died Monday, July 22, 2013, at her home in Woodstock. She was born Sept. 17, 1919 in Harvard to Edward and Emma (Schuldt) Knull.   On Jan. 19, 1938, she married Charles B. Schultz at Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walworth, Wis. She lived in Woodstock for the past 60 years and spent more than 85 years of her life in McHenry County. She was a factory inspector for the Woodstock Typewriter Company and the Woodstock Die Cast Company. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock since 1954.   She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting and traveling on bus tours with her sister, Janette. She also was an avid Chicago White Sox fan.

R. Jacob Kovarik, 38, Sycamore, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, of unexpected and natural causes.  He was born June 20, 1975, in Waukegan to Robert H. and Donna J. (Sorensen) Kovarik.   His family was the most important part of his life. He was proud to be a store manager at Aarons in Crystal Lake. He and his family were active volunteers with Feed’ Em Soup and the high school rugby club in Sycamore. He enjoyed music, gaming and attending Renaissance fairs. He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. James George Anderson, 68, Wonder Lake, died Sunday, July 14, 2013, in Wonder Lake. He was born May 21, 1945 in Chicago to Frank and Alice Anderson. He was a proud patriot and U.S. Army veteran who was awarded several medals  for his service. He was honorably discharged after being injured while on duty. He  was a man who lived simply and enjoyed life and worked hard. His family meant the world to him. He was a man who would give people the clothes off his back and he was loyal to a fault. Jacqueline Savalick, 59, Wonder Lake, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at home with her loving family by her side. She was born April 19, 1954, in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.  On June 7, 2002, she married Max Savalick in Woodstock. She was a devoted employee of Prem Magnetics of Johnsburg for 28 years. As a quality control manager, she loved and was loved by all her co-workers. She enjoyed camping and being outdoors. Janice Carter, 65, Woodstock, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at her home at Sheltered Village. She was born March 19, 1948, in McHenry to John and Evelyn Carter. She was a resident of Sheltered Village for the past 12 years. She was active at both Pioneer Center and Rail in Woodstock. She was a very happy person and always had a smile. Everyone loved her. Arlene Rose Bechtold, 97, Union, died Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at JourneyCare Hospice in Woodstock. She was born March 26, 1916, in Woodstock to John and Rose (Schultz) Seagrist. She was raised in Woodstock by her father and her stepmother, Minnie. She was a very caring and giving mother. She loved music and playing organ.
