Wencl J. Dostal, 98, Owatonna, Minn., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at Owatonna Hospital.
He was born July 15, 1916, in Havana Township, Minn., to John and Josephine (Jirousek) Dostal.
On Feb. 14, 1942, he married Marian Styndl at St. John Lutheran Church, Owatonna.
He entered the United States Army and served during World War II from 1942 until 1945. Following his tour of duty, he returned to Owatonna where he and his wife made their home.
He worked for 18 years with his brother-in-law, Bob Panzer, in the painting and wallpaper decorating business. He began Dostal Decorating, a business he ran for 24 years.
He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. He also enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening and square dancing. He was a member at St. John Lutheran Church and was very active with the VFW in Owatonna.
Survivors include a son, Larry (Cathy) Dostal, Owatonna; two daughters, Anne Panos, Woodstock, and Judy Halverson, Baxter, Minn.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Knippel, Jennifer (Scott) Estrem, Michael Dostal, Michelle (Ben) Sunde, Joshua Panos and Jacob Panos; and four great-grandchildren, Maximillian Estrem, Michael Estrem, Isabell Sunde and Anika Sunde.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years April 2, 2014; his parents; an infant son; a grandson, Blake Panos; three brothers, Harry, Donald and John; and four sisters, Margaret, Josie, Mildred and Elsie.
The visitation and funeral were Nov. 18 at St. John Lutheran Church, Owatonna. Interment was in St. John Cemetery, Owatonna. Military honors were provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Arrangements were made by Michaelson Funeral Home.
