Walter Joseph “Wally” Schuett, 89

Walter Joseph “Wally” Schuett, 89, of Redlands, California, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025. Born on April 19, 1935, in Harvard, Illinois, Wally lived a life marked by kindness, humility, and devotion to his family and community.

Wally was the son of Walter John Schuett and Rose J. Schuett. He grew up in Woodstock, Illinois, where he graduated as valedictorian from Woodstock High School in 1952. His academic excellence continued at Bradley University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in History and Economics in 1956. While at Bradley, Wally participated in ROTC, which prepared him for his service in the United States Air Force.

Following his graduation, Wally entered active duty with the Air Force in 1956. He served with distinction at Oxnard Air Force Base and completed his military career as a Lieutenant in 1959. His time in the service instilled in him a deep sense of patriotism that remained with him throughout his life.

After his military service, Wally embarked on a successful career as a stockbroker. Over the years, he worked for various firms, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his dedication and professionalism. 

Wally leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Sandra Schuett, and his children: Debra Kennedy (John), Diana Neumann (Dave), Timothy Schuett (Ana), Rebecca Schuett (Craig), Beau Schuett, and Brianne Schuett-Turner (Robb). Wally was also a proud grandfather to Nathan Kennedy (Christy), Ian Kennedy (Alyssa), Sarah Heinlein (Tim), Joshua Given (Crystal), Elisha Schuett (Asia), Izabelle Schuett, Gabriella Schuett, Ethan Schuett, Genevieve Schuett, Evangeline Schuett, Analiese Schuett, Braxton Schuett, Sophie Turner—and cherished seven great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.

Family was central to Wally’s life. He was known for being emotionally supportive and an exceptional listener—a source of wisdom and comfort to those who knew him. His warmth extended beyond his immediate family to include cousins Sharon Quamen and Eugene Schultz as well as countless friends who were touched by his generosity of spirit.

Wally had many passions that enriched his life. A gifted poet and avid reader, he found joy in words and storytelling. He loved playing cards with friends and family and cheering on his favorite sports teams—the Chicago White Sox, Green Bay Packers, and Los Angeles Dodgers. Whether socializing with loved ones or enjoying time in Palm Desert or Laguna Beach, Wally embraced life’s simple pleasures with gratitude.

Faith played an important role in Wally’s journey. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Woodstock during his early years and later served as both a Sunday school teacher and deacon at the First Baptist Church of Woodstock. His faith guided him to live a life rooted in compassion.

Wally will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for the qualities that defined him: kindness, humility, positivity, and an unwavering love for those around him. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, friend—and as someone who always had time to listen or share one of his captivating stories.

May Walter Joseph “Wally” Schuett’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him as they celebrate a life well-lived filled with love and purpose.

A Celebration of Life will be held with his family members in the Spring.
