Ryan M. Hanson

Ryan M. Hanson, 18, Woodstock, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2017.

He was born Sept. 24, 1998, to Michael R. Hanson and Lori A. Carr in Barrington.

He was known by his friends as “Mr. Literal,” and he was a very accomplished young man. A self-taught musician, he enjoyed playing the guitar. He loved Scouting and was a member of Wonder Lake Boy Scout Troop 456 from kindergarten until he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated eighth in his class at Woodstock North High School in 2017 where he earned high honors all four years. While at WNHS he was a member of the math team and Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering. He was a state finalist with the Math Team and WYSE four years in a row. He was also a member of the cross-country team, tennis team, and track and field team.  He was a master of disguise and amateur videographer.

Most recently, he was enrolled in the Pathways Engineering program at McHenry County College and the University of Illinois, tackling a double major in computer engineering and mathematics.

Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Samantha Hanson and Rachel Hanson; aunts and uncles, Kathy and Gary Grube, Linda and Steve Lettecci, Pam and Marty Summerfelt, Jennifer and  Nick Max (his godmother), Lonnie and Michelle Carr Jr., Tony and Angie Carr and Ricki Carr (his godfather); grandparents, Robert and Deanna Hanson and Lonnie and Kelley Carr Sr.; many cousins and good friends; and his girlfriend, Rhianna Storti.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents and his grandmother, Kathleen Carr.

Visitation was Sept. 8, and the funeral was Sept. 9 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Interment was private.

Memorials can be made to the Black Hawk Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, 2820 McFarlan Road, Rockford, IL 61107.
