Roman F. “Ray” Stygar

Roman F. “Ray” Stygar, 91, Crystal Lake, formerly of Wonder Lake, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at The Fountains, Crystal Lake.

He was born July 28, 1922, to John and Sophia Stygar in Chicago.  From 1942 until 1946, he served in the U. S. Coast Guard. On Oct. 8, 1949, he married Rita Marie Faucher.

Following their marriage, the couple lived in Chicago until 1958 when they moved to San Diego, where they lived for 31 years.  Before becoming residents of Crystal Lake in 2007, they lived in Albuquerque, N.M.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a recipient of a Purple Heart.

He worked as a machinist for 31 years at General Dynamics and for 7-½ years at Ford. He was a member and a former Grand Knight with the Wonder Lake Christ The King Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Ed (Nancy) Stygar, Wonder Lake, Richard (the late Renee) Stygar, Albuquerque, Jimmy Wiemeyer, Rockford, Tim Styger, New Mexico, Thomas (Jean) Zolik, Minneapolis, George Wiemeyer, Chicago, David Michellotto, Atlanta and Anthony Michellotto, Johnsburg, Margaret and Joanna Weimeyer; many great-nephews and -nieces; and a sister-in-law, Susan (Leo) Michellotto, Tempe, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Nov. 11, 2008; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. July 2 at Justen’s Wonder Lake Funeral Home, 7611 W. Hancock Drive, Wonder Lake.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Christ the King Church, 5006 E. Wonder Lake Road, Wonder Lake.

Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, Wonder Lake.
