Born: April 7, 1933

Died: November 24, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Leroy Shook, 89, on November 24, 2022. Bob was born to Delmar and Isabel (Carlson) Shook, on April 7, 1933 in Woodstock, IL. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1951. He then enlisted in the Army with his best friend Jack Sorensen and served in Korea for two years. Upon his return to the states, he met and fell in love with Joyce Berna whom he married on October 20, 1956. Together they created a beautiful family that continues to grow and flourish. Family remains the most important legacy Bob will be remembered for.

Bob enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, hunting, pitching horseshoes, and he was also an avid and accomplished bowler. Bob and Joyce enjoyed many bowling trips together with friends throughout the years. He was a mason by trade until he began employment with ComEd, from which he would eventually retire after 29 years. He lived his entire life in Woodstock and was a lifelong member of Grace Lutheran Church, the VFW, and the Woodstock Moose. Bob enjoyed growing many vegetables in the garden his father started many years ago and was known for having the best tomatoes in town. His children now carry on this tradition. Bob was a kind, caring, and loving man who would generously help anyone when needed. He will be deeply missed.

Bob is survived by his wife of 66 years; four children; Robin Gibbs, Robert S. (Debra) Shook, Raymond (Karen) Shook, Roxane (Trevor) Tillman; eight grandchildren; Neil (Loran) Gibbs, Helen (Marc) Emery, Eric (Aimee) Gibbs, Joshua Tillman, Daniel Shook, Justin Tillman, Matthew Shook, Stephanie Shook; six great grandchildren; Annabelle Gibbs, Madelyn Emery, Quintin Emery, Lark Gibbs, Aubrey Emery, Maren Gibbs; sister-in-law Lou Shook, brother-in-law John Hoyt along with many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law D. Eugene (Ruth) Shook, sister Karen Hoyt, and brother LaVerne Shook.

Visitation will be held at Grace Lutheran Church on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 9:00 am until the worship service at 11:00 am.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock, IL.

Rest in peace Bob…you will forever be in our hearts.
