Robert H. Thoma, 83

Robert H. Thoma, 83, of McHenry, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the Courtyard at McHenry Assisted Living Facility. He was born in Chicago on Oct. 3, 1942, to Henry and Louise (Devaux) Thoma.

Robert was a commercial electrician by trade, but he was also an all-around handyman. His favorite pastime was camping and traveling with his family and friends. After retirement, he and his wife, Phyllis, enjoyed many trips together, and one of their favorite destinations was Naples, Fla. He loved to eat food but he didn’t like having to prepare the food, so he became a “master pot stirrer” instead. Robert was also a jokester. He enjoyed making people laugh, and he had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Thoma; his sons, Mark (Angela) Thoma and Matthew Thoma; his granddaughter, Madisen Thoma; his sister, Jeanett (Tom) Jurgot; and his cousin, Lois Potvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Mary Langhi and Barbara Thoma.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, IL 60098.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Habitat for Humanity.
