Robert Edward Rhead

Robert Edward Rhead, 70, Woodstock, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago.

He was born April 25, 1943, to Richard and Agnes (Haskell) Rhead in Monterey Park, Calif.  

On Aug. 23, 1964, he married Beverly M. Stone, his childhood sweetheart, in Yucca Valley, Calif.

He was a member of the Woodstock Assembly of God Church for more than 32 years, serving as the secretary treasurer for more than 27 years.  He was also the head of the Grands Ministry at the church.  He coached basketball for Woodstock Christian School, leading his team to the championship game.  He also coached a Little League team. Growing up in the desert, he enjoyed rock climbing and catching lizards and snakes.  He enjoyed playing games that challenge the mind, but Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles were his favorites.  He also enjoyed gardening. 

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kimberly (A. Bradley) Sass; two grandchildren, Chad Sass and Sarah Sass; a great-granddaughter, Hailee Sass; a brother, Richard (Dety) Rhead; a sister, Ann Conzelman; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was Jan. 10 and continued until the funeral service Jan. 11 at Woodstock Assembly of God Church. All other services were private. Memorials can be made to any organization of the donor’s choice. Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home.
