Michael J. Kelly

Michael J. Kelly, 87, Woodstock, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 9, 1925, in Flint, Mich., to George and Elizabeth (Dollohan) Kelly.  

He married Marietta F. McLoughlin.

He was a veteran and served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was decorated with the Air Medal from General Dwight D. Eisenhower for showing bravery in saving the lives of his crew. He was founder and chairman of the board of Kelco Industries and a renowned industrialist, author and philanthropist.

Survivors include three sons, Michael Shawn (Ann) Kelly, Kevin George (Cricket) Kelly, Brian McLoughlin (Erin) Kelly; two daughters, Karen Kelly Conway and Kimberly (Dan) Kelly-Fitzharris; 23 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a sister, Margaret Ryan.

He was preceded in death by his wife July 23, 1999.

Private services and interment were at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.

A memorial Mass and gathering will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were made by Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.
