Martha M. Betts, 85, Ringwood

Martha M. Betts, 85, Ringwood, died Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at Fair Oaks Health Care Center, Crystal Lake.

She was born June 20, 1931, to John and Wendella (Dammeir) Cairns in Richmond. 

On Sept. 30, 1950, she married Robert M. Betts in Richmond.

She was born and raised on a farm. She spent her youth immersed in a culture of humility, compassion, hard work and unending devotion others. She and her husband built their homes with their own hands and raised their children with the virtues brought from their childhoods.

She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Richmond.

Survivors include three children, Dolores “Dee” (David) Comella, Woodstock, Debra (Bill) Bork, Oak Park, and David (Kim) Betts, McHenry; five grandsons, Aaron Bork, Nicholas Comella, Jon Betts, Zachary Comella and Chris Betts; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Claire and Henry Betts and Robert Bork; two brothers, Marvin (Nancy) Cairns and Harold Cairns; two sisters-in-law, Pat Cairns and Marilyn Cairns; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Henry Cairns and John Cairns Jr.; and a sister, Betty Bottlemy.

Visitation was Aug. 25 and the funeral was Aug. 26 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Interment was in Ringwood Cemetery.
