Marlene Loraine Teuber, 90

Marlene Loraine Teuber transitioned peacefully on Nov. 14, 2023, at her home in Woodstock surrounded by her family. Born in Chicago, on Aug. 30, 1933, to Edward Kremske and Frieda (Zitzow) Kremske, she spent 90 wonderful years as the best wife, mother, and friend. The last two weeks of her life were spent saying goodbye to those she loved.

Marlene married Robert W. Teuber in 1956 and eventually settled in Prairie Grove, where they raised four children. Marlene would lead the family on many camping adventures. The most adventurous was a six-week truck camper trip up to the Alcan Highway in Alaska and back again. Marlene managed the family of six during all this traveling, keeping everyone engaged and out of mischief.

For two decades, Marlene worked as the main school secretary at Prairie Grove grade school, starting in 1972. She was the face of the school and was the first person that greeted all who entered. For many students and staff, Marlene was their fondest memory of their time there. She was involved in so many activities, including the annual PTO auction fundraiser, student-teacher faculty games, skits put on for the children, and donkey basketball games. She continued until her death, meeting with retired teachers and staff from Prairie Grove on a regular basis.

After retirement, she and Bob bought a motor home and traveled around the country, wearing out a few motorhomes along the way. They eventually enjoyed spending part of the year at their daughter’s house in Hebron, Ill., and part of the year in Florida at a favorite motorhome park where they made many more lasting friendships.

For the last 10 years of Marlene’s life, she and Bob settled in Woodstock to be close to the family. Many happy days were spent visiting family and friends. We could always count on Marlene to be willing to host or attend gatherings.

Marlene was a long-standing member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake. She and Bob enjoyed many activities with their church friends, including bowling leagues, church picnics, card and couples’ clubs, and volunteering for various activities.

Marlene was a wonderful and positive wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she will be missed by all her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Norman Kremske; and her sister, Winogene Kremske.

She was a wonderful mother to Robert B. Teuber, Donna (Rich) Healless, Lori (Reiner) Hinner, and Jim (Sandy) Teuber; grandmother to Justen (Kelly) Healless, Jeremiah (Mike Iring) Healless, Gabby Hinner, Garrett Hinner, Jameson Teuber, Cole Teuber, Aidan Teuber, and Wyatt Teuber; and great-grandmother to Maggie Healless; aunt to Keith (Peggy) Kremske, Janet Hess, Bonnie Kremske, Danielle (George) Shaw, Jenny Gaillardet, Scott Teuber, David (Cherri) Teuber, Glenn Teuber, and Amy (Daniel) Saphir; and great-aunt to Jessica Teuber, Cynthia Teuber, Hadassah Gaillardet, Clarissa Gaillardet, Jennifer Hess, Gianna Onstot, Drew Saphir, and Carley Saphir.

The family would like to thank the caring and devoted staff at FirstLight HomeCare of McHenry County in McHenry and JourneyCare for taking care of Marlene so thoughtfully and tenderly during her final days.

A memorial visitation will be held at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, on Friday, Nov. 24, from 3 until a service at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church and School, 300 S. Parkway Court, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
