Mark William Widmer

Mark William Widmer, 62, Woodstock, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in Madison, Wis.

He was a deeply loving husband, father and grandfather. He was big-hearted and endlessly patient and possessed a quick wit and dry sense of humor. A committed educator, Mark retired after 35 years as a teacher and administrator with Woodstock School District 200. Throughout his career – and as a founding Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 329 – he was a positive influence in the lives of hundreds of young people.

He was a creative and skilled craftsman whose passions fueled a lifelong interest in new hobbies and projects. He found joy in auto restoration and machining, carpentry and woodworking and traveling, especially camping and visiting his sons and their families. He was delighted to embrace his role as a grandfather in recent years.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Mary; three sons, William, David and Andrew; three daughters-in-law, Jeanne, Jaclyn and Carolyn; three grandsons, Wendell, Arthur and Conrad; two sisters, Nancy and Laurel; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Junior” Widmer and Nancy Widmer.

A memorial celebration will begin with a visitation at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, followed by a service at 5 p.m. at the Concorde Centre, 3708 Alden Road, Woodstock.

Donations can be made to the McHenry County Conservation District at https://www.mccdistrict.org/rccms/donate/.
