Margaret Repp Heaphy, 100

Marge passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on February 14th (St. Valentine’s Day), she was 100 years old.

Marge was born in Waukegan Illinois on March 15th 1925 to Slovenian immigrants. She attended Mother of God grade school and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1942. She graduated from St. Francis Hospital Nursing School in 1946 and began working at Victory Memorial Hospital and ended her career at St Theresa’s Hospital in Waukegan.

Marge married Thomas J. O’Grady in 1949 with whom she had 5 children. A second marriage to Gilbert J. Heaphy, which provided her with 3 additional step children, and she embraced them as her own.

Upon retirement Marge and Gil traveled internationally through the British Isles, Europe and the Holy Land.

Cruises included a trans-Atlantic voyage from England to Nova Scotia, the Caribbean and Alaska with old friends from high school.

Marge and Gil also were enthusiastic participants in Knights of Columbus events that included weekly singalongs at the Waukegan K.C. Club and annual camping trips throughout the United States making new K.C. friends.

She was an avid Bridge, Cribbage and Hand and Foot player. She read and did crossword puzzles daily. Marge loved to entertain family and friends with delicious meals around a beautifully set dining room table.

Proof that she was loved is when 230 family and friends from coast to coast joined her to celebrate her 100th birthday. She touched many lives. Her motto was “never stop making new younger friends and hold on to your old friends”. She will be thoroughly missed by all who knew and loved her and will be remembered as one of the last of the “Greatest Generation” that taught so many to live with courage and love.

She is survived by her children: Kevin (Margaret) O’Grady, Peg (Kathy Lay) O’Grady, Michael (Kathy Rauch) O’Grady, Tim O’Grady, Patty (John) Kivlin; step children Brian (Elizabeth) Heaphy and daughter in law Dianne Heaphy. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Margaret Repp, T. J. O’Grady, Husband Gilbert Heaphy, Stepson David Heaphy, Step daughter and son Kathleen and Mathias Falcasantos.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave. Woodstock, IL 60098. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM, on Monday, February 23, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave.

Woodstock, IL 60098. Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd. Libertyville, IL 60048.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Mosaic Education Fund at St Mary School 320 Lincoln Ave, Woodstock IL. 60098
