John Henry Klindworth, 86, of Woodstock, Illinois, passed away on June 2, 2026. He was born on November 12, 1939 at home in Hebron, Illinois to John and Magdalena (Lena) Klindworth, née Witt. He lived a life marked by hard work, humility, and a deep love for the land.
A lifelong farmer, Klindworth devoted all of his years to the family farm in Woodstock, Illinois. He was known for raising dairy cattle and the crops to support the dairy operations, as well as for his steady hands, strength, and willingness to help a neighbor in need. Farming was not just his livelihood, but his way of life, and he took great pride in the fields he tended and the work he did each day. It has been said that his dairy was so clean and respected that the milkman would only drink from his milkhouse.
Though he never married, John was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community. He passed surrounded by family at the home of his niece, Diane, in Rockford, Illinois where he was visited often by his niece Carrie and nephew Michael. He was a master welder, and enjoyed woodworking, farm auctions, and coffee with the guys. He will be remembered for his quiet way, kind heart, wit, generosity, ready smile, ability to work long and hard, and his thoughtful pauses. His life was a testament to values, honest labor, and devotion to friends, family and home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Tom, and many lifelong friends including Earl, Jeanne, and David. He is survived by his sisters Diana Klindworth (AZ), Mary Cummings (NC), and Marlene (Richard) Russell (TX), 8 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and nephews, a growing group of great-greats, and countless friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held on June 27 at the family farm, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the McHenry County Farm Bureau Foundation, 1102 McConnell Road, Woodstock, IL 60098 or https://McHenryCFB.org.
