John E. Nihan

John E. Nihan, 82, Woodstock, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Centegra Hospital-Woodstock.
He was born Aug. 28, 1932, to Ralph and Eva (Wolf) Nihan in Woodstock.  
On May 13, 1961, he married Wilma L. Winkelman at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock.
Nihan served in the U.S. Navy.  He was the founding partner of the Nihan & Nihan accounting firm in Woodstock, which he opened in 1972. He continued working with his daughter, Tammy, until his retirement in 2012.  
He was a member of the Woodstock Knights of Columbus, Harvard Moose Lodge, and was active in the IAAI of Illinois. In the past, he was an active member of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoyed the companionship of his grand-pups, Torrey, Maizie and Maui and his dedicated caregivers Sue Sturlis and Kylie Schiller.
Survivors include a daughter, Tamara (Gregory) Urbaniak, McHenry; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Robert Nihan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Woodstock. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.
Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
