JoAnn Smith, 69

JoAnn Smith, 69, of Woodstock, passed away on Aug. 28, 2022, at Northwestern Medicine in McHenry.

She was born Aug. 18, 1953, in Chicago to John J. and Kathleen H. (Higgins) Deady. She married Gerald M. “Jerry” Smith on July 2, 1994.

JoAnn was raised in Streamwood. and graduated in 1971 from Larkin High School in Elgin. She worked at various jobs, including Baird & Warner Real Estate in St. Charles, and the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake. She also was a longtime Mary Kay Consultant. 

She was a member of the Illinois Jaycees, served as a chapter, region and state officer; was awarded the United States JCI Senate No. 51107 and served as state president of the Illinois JCI Senate; and was a member and president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus Council 776. JoAnn was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Woodstock and served as Mass coordinator, extra-ordinary minister, and lector.

She is survived by her daughter, Shaun (Jason) Will, as well as Justin (Mary) Smith, Michelle (Jason) O’Leary, and Karen (Roger) Trutsch; sisters, Peg (Noel) Marsh and Kathy Deady; brothers, Jim (Babette Harvey), John (Linda) and Joe Deady; grandchildren, Bryanna, Aiden, Arthur, Kiara, Sophia, Mia, Anastacia, Andrew, Elaina, Lucia, Joseph, Teresa, Mariana, and Zelie; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry; and two nieces, Maureen O’Donnell and Jennifer Edgerton.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2022, at the Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, from 3 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Colon Cancer Coalition or the Catholic Assistance Mission.
