Joan H. Mansfield

Joan H. Mansfield, 80, Woodstock, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at her home.

She was born Nov. 2, 1931, in Woodstock to Jacob and Grace (Eddy) Heisler.  

On Nov. 24, 1951, she married William Mansfield in Greenwood.

She was a 1949 graduate of Woodstock High School and was Miss Woodstock in 1950. She attended the University of Illinois. 

She was a lifelong Woodstock city volunteer, and served on numerous committees, and was a Woodstock City Council member for 18 years. She also was the office manager for Tidy Rugs, a Cub Scout leader, a past commander of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary, a columnist for The Woodstock Independent and the Woodstock BPW Woman of the Year in 1996.

Survivors include three sons, David (Kim) Mansfield, James Mansfield and Howard (Pam) Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Tricia (Steve) Canty, Jennifer (Joe) Losch, Carrie (Andy Recard) Mansfield, A.J. Mansfield, Fred, Lewis and Elizabeth Mansfield; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson and J.D. Canty and Brody Losch; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents,; her husband in 1990; a son, Scot, in 2003; and a brother, Richard Heisler, in 2008.

Visitation was June 13 at the Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.  A funeral service was held at the funeral home June 14, followed by interment at the McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock.

Memorials may be made to the McHenry County Historical Society.
