James Robert MacGilvray
James Robert MacGilvray, 78, Woodstock, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, in Elk Grove Village.
He was born April 4, 1936, to James P. and Mary Katherine (Andrews) MacGilvray, in Morrison.
On Sept. 17, 1960, he married Paula J. Bush at St. Kilian Church, Chicago.
He was a University of Notre Dame alumnus. He was employed at Harper-Wyman Co. in Princeton. The company promoted and transferred him to Mexico for four years and then to Venezuela for two years. He returned to work in the United States in 1971. From 1976 to 1987, he worked for Brake Parts in McHenry, then for Chicago Rawhide in Elgin for two years and, from 1989 to 2001, for the Camcar Division of Textron Inc. in Rockford.
He enjoyed snowmobiling and boating on Lake Michigan. He traveled in his motor home to 48 states and a good portion of northeastern Canada. He also had traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and to most of the national parks.
Survivors include a daughter, Lea Ann (David) DeMarais, McHenry; a son, Scott (Nancy) MacGilvray, Greenville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Brandon and Justin DeMarais, Steven, Michael (Katie Thompson) and Colleen MacGilvray; his loving companion, Julia Fair; and two brothers, J. Alan MacGilvray and John (Susan) MacGilvray.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. 7, 2004; a grandson, Ryan Thomas DeMarais; and his parents.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3500 W. Washington St., McHenry. The memorial Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick Countryside Cemetery, McHenry.
