Hermon L. Wesby, 80, of Aurora, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Northwestern Hospital in Huntley.
Hermon was born on April 22, 1944, in Lafayette, La., to Julius and Pearl Wesby.
He served in the U.S. Army and received a rank of E5. He was honorably discharged on June 15, 1971.
Hermon was employed at Caterpillar Tractor in Montgomery, Ill., for 30 years.
He made friends with everyone he met, no matter where he met them. He was an avid pool player, bowler, and loved camping. He enjoyed traveling around the states on his Gold Wing, pulling along his trailer and his partner, Marilee. Boating on the Illinois and Mississippi rivers was another activity that brought joy to his life.
He was a member of the Montgomery Memorial Post 7452 of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He proudly marched in parades and served as an honor guard for his fellow veterans.
He is survived by his better half, Marilee; five children, Jessie (Rodney) Williams, Patrick Wesby, Babette (Kenneth) Haines, Jackren (Alonzo) Smith, and Tyrone Strickland; one sister, Mary Ann Wesby; two brothers, Eddie (Dorothy) Harris and Ray Charles (Debra) Wesby; one sister-in-law, Ann Wesby; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Johnnie Wesby Sr. and Robert Melvin Wesby, sister-in-law, Barbara Wesby; and three nephews, Johnnie Wesby Jr., Larry D. Wesby, and Duriel J. Fultz.
Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Aurora, 299 W Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL 60506. Pastor Ed Schoolcraft will officiate.
