Henry Arnold Schmarje, 73

Henry Arnold Schmarje, age 73, passed away Aug., 24, 2021, at the home of his son, Henry, with his family by his side.

He was born Dec. 9, 1947, in Woodstock, Ill., the son of Ralph and Lillian (Habbley) Schmarje. He graduated from Woodstock High School class of 1967. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He enjoyed spending time with his family, NASCAR, football, and hanging out at Colemans in Crystal Lake. Henry worked at Curran Contracting, Toastmaster, and retired from Rongo. He loved to help anyone that needed it. 

Henry is survived by his son, Henry (Jenni); grandchildren, Syleena (Alex) Sunderlage and Lexi, Kya, Madison, Jarret and Faith Schmarje; great-grandchildren, Maverick and Cameron Sunderlage; his sisters, Barbara Leanna of Tucson, Ariz., and Wendy (Matt) Hooper and Vickie Schmarje both of Woodstock; many nieces and nephews; and lots of cousins, and his Colemans family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Nancy Haager; his brother, Albert Schmarje; and his grandson, Noah Kelling. Memorials may be made to the family. 

A visitation will be held Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. Henry’s service to his country will be honored with full military honors at 7 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required. Cremation rites accorded with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory.
