Harry H. Haymaker

Harry H. Haymaker, 89, Woodstock and Port Charlotte, Fla., died Thursday, Sept., 26, 2013, at home.

He was born March 20, 1924, in South Bend, Ind., to Harry and Opal Haymaker.

On Sept. 22, 1951, he married Catherine E. Gilhooly at Our Lady of the Angels in Chicago.

He was in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a Chicago police officer for 30 years. He enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Karl) Jung and Diane (Phil) Evans; three sons, Gary (Nadine), Jerry and Paul (Mary); 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild on the way; and two sisters, Adele and Mary.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  his wife; a sister, Elsa; and a son, Alan Haymaker.

Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at St. Mary Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock. The funeral Mass will follow.

Inurnment will be private at Mary Hill Cemetery, Niles.

Donations can be sent to the The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, 1407 W. Washington Boulevard, Chicago, IL 60607.

Arrangement were made by Basic Funerals and Cremation Choices, Des Plaines.
