Glenn F. Walkington

Glenn F. Walkington, 96, died Sunday, March 4, 2018, in Sandpoint, Idaho.

He was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Greenwood, to Howard and Althea (Bumsted) Walkington.

On July 2, 1944, he married Sara Tuttle in Greenwood.

He worked on the family farm until he was drafted in 1945 and served in the U.S. Army paratroopers. He resumed farming after serving his country.

In 1948 he joined his three brothers in hauling milk from local dairy farms. At that time, milk was kept in heavy milk cans. Fortunately for “The Walkington Brothers,” a family business with a 50-year history, bulk tanks became available to farms in 1954. In 1986, Glenn and Sara sold their home in Woodstock, bought an RV, and retired to Green Valley, Arizona.

He was a lifetime member of Woodstock Moose Lodge and an avid Chicago White Sox fan. He enjoyed a good game of pinochle, 500, or cribbage. His favorite pastime was playing golf with family and friends.

Survivors include his children, Geoffrey (Patricia) Walkington, Gary (Diane) Walkington, Greg (Nancy) Walkington, Trish (Jim) Overly, Paul (Joann) Walkington, John (Jeanne) Walkington, and Ruth (Jesse) Watson; a daughter-in-law, Melody Walkington Kiefer; 23 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife March 22, 2017; a son, Phillip Walkington; a great-granddaughter, Maddie Finch; two brothers, Robert and Howard; and three sisters, Lois, Caryl and Shirley.

Visitation was March 9 and the funeral was March 10 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock. Interment followed in McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery, Woodstock, with military honors by the Woodstock VFW Honor Guard.

Memorials can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607; or to Adult & Child Therapy Services, 708 Washington St., Woodstock, IL 60098.
