Gerald Scharnau

 

Gerald (Jerry) Walter Scharnau, 81, San Antonio, died May 19, 2012. 

He was born June 16, 1930, to Walter and Ruth Scharnau, longtime residents of Woodstock.

He attended Illinois State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Trinity University.  He lived in San Antonio, where he taught in the Harlandale Independent School District for 40 years.

Survivors include his three children, LaVern M. (Carolyn) Thomas, Glenda R. (Frank) McDonald, and Sue (Bill) Ward;  a brother, Ralph (Ruth) Scharnau; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two nephews; one niece; four great-nephews; and two great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 53 years, Arlyne, in 2007.   

Visitation and the funeral arrangements were made by South Side Funeral Home, San Antonio.

Interment was at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.  

Memorials can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
