Francis M. Costello

Francis M. Costello, 96, Hartland, died Tuesday May 23, 2017, on his farm where he lived his whole life.

He was born Oct. 10, 1920, to Frank and Mary (Donovan) Costello in Woodstock.

On Sept. 27, 1952, he married Margaret Cruickshank.

He served in the field artillery of the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and France. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, he moved back to the family dairy farm in Hartland where he stayed for the rest of his life to work the land and raise his family.  He was a lifelong member at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Hartland.  He was a member of the Woodstock VFW and the McHenry County Farm Bureau.  He loved spending time with his family and he will be missed.

Survivors include four children, Diane (David) Williams, Kathleen (Bruce) Donenberg, Shawn Costello and Francis W. Costello; three grandchildren, Allison (Scott) Krueger, Brian Donenberg and Catherine Costello.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a sister, Catherine White.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, May 30, at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock.  At noon, the funeral procession will leave the funeral home and travel to St. Patrick of Hartland Catholic Church, 15012 St. Patrick Road for a 12:30 p.m. funeral Mass. Burial will be in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Hartland.
